Personal Skills Skill 01 | Eye of the Mind (False): EX | Yoshitsune possesses a sixth sense that goes beyond just a rough feeling and reaches the level of true precognition, powerful enough to be on par with the perception of Pure Eyes. This magical insight was one of the gifts granted to her by the Tengu King Sōjōbō upon the Mount of Kurama that marked her transition from Ushiwakamaru to Minamoto no Yoshitsune. In the legend of Gikeiki, it is said that she was a brilliant and talented general, and led her army through many victories despite her youth. It is presumed that her natural ability to command her soldiers came from these eyes of the Tengu, allowing her to foresee the battle at hand and take the course that led to their victory. Her Eye of the Mind (False) allows her to perceive her own imminent fate before it occurs, at times when it is the most important for her; the more drastic the fate, the more clarity it is that she perceives it. An event that would result in the loss of her life could be experienced as if it was reality itself, and she would know not only what actions it was that she needed to take in order to reject that fate, but why she needed to avoid it. This granted knowledge is what differentiates her Eye of the Mind from something such as the blind sense of instinct that only tells a person what to do.
This can be called a “Local Omniscience” at full power, as the concept of time is simply obliterated from Yoshitsune’s perception while she is perceiving the future. She cannot reach further than several minutes past the current point in time, but she is able to witness an innumerable amount of alternate timelines depending on the actions that she takes to change it, testing each one to discover which of them provides the best result. All the information gathered from these different routes is stored instantly and at once before she decides on her course, providing her with knowledge that she couldn’t possibly know in the current timeline. For example, in one timeline she could choose to look to the right to check what was in that area, and then in another she could look to the left instead, but still retain the information gathered from the previous event. Through this method, Yoshitsune could possibly acquire a complete mapping of her surroundings, predict what a person would say or do in any given event, and be confident in the best possible path of action no matter the situation. The weakness of this perception however is that it does not carry over into real action, as Yoshitsune can still make mistakes in her execution. It is also an ability that cannot be fully controlled, as this level of perception only seems to activate on its own accord in the most dire of situations.
Yoshitsune’s prescience can work at a reduced effectiveness to conserve energy, as it would tire her out very quickly if used in every scenario. In normal situations, her Eye of the Mind (False) is reduced to the rank of A and acts more like an instinctual sense that only gives her a general idea of the future. With it, Yoshitsune can feel the trajectories of attacks coming her way like those of swung blades or fired bullets, allowing her to defend herself against them even if she has no other way of detecting such things. It also works in allowing her to sense the intent of others, whether it be the hostility of an intent to kill, or the calmness of someone who intends peace. This level of instinct persists in every moment, even during times of sleep, making it practically impossible to surprise her. Yoshitsune’s Eye of the Mind is not something she can control—it is always active, and she cannot change the effectiveness of the ability at will—she must merely work around it. |
Skill 02 | Tengu no Waza: A | This was the first gift of the Tengu King Sōjōbō when Yoshitsune reached the Kurama Shrine on top of the mountain of the same name. She was taught the way of the sword like none have ever wielded it, turning her into a master swordswoman at the young age of eleven. “Tengu no Waza,” or the 67 Techniques of the Heavenly Dog, were each alone an ability worthy of fame by themselves, only ever truly mastered after a lifetime of training and repetition, yet the Tengu King imbued each of these abilities into Yoshitsune, allowing her to use them naturally as if she herself were a demon like him. Along with these inhuman arts granted was a natural talent with the blade, allowing her to fight on par or even surpass other swordsman with her flowing form that is swift and precise to make up for its lack of strength. Her genius swordplay is one of the primary contributing factors to her unparalleled renown in Japan, as difficult to block as a hurricane, as deadly as the precise strike of a sniper rifle, and as swift as a strike of lightning.
Tengu no Waza is collection of 67 different techniques that achieve impossible feats with their perfection, capable of even producing abilities on the level of Noble Phantasms through pure technique. Perhaps the most famous of these is the sword technique used by Kojirou Sasaki, named Tsubame Gaeshi: It is a technique developed in the pursuit of a way to catch a swallow with the blade, something impossible to accomplish with a single strike. Therefore, Tsubame Gaeshi achieves this by defying reality and splitting a single swing of the sword into up to three simultaneous slashes from different angles through Multi-dimensional refraction. This is no Noble Phantasm nor magical phenomenon, but something performed through skill alone, and the same applies to each of the 67 techniques of Tengu no Waza.
There are too many techniques in this set to summarize briefly, as each one is worthy of a legend in its own right, but there are those that Yoshitsune favors over the others, including that of Tsubame Gaeshi: Suikomimasu is a technique that involves rapidly withdrawing the blade to create an incision in space itself. This void quickly tries to fill itself and thus creates a singularity for a brief moment that pulls the opponent in with a powerful suction while Yoshitsune moves in to deliver a deadly blow. Jigoku no Tabi is the act of moving the sword so swiftly in an arc that it creates a friction between the blade and the air to heat the metal to searing temperatures for a time, which allows the sword to cut through other weapons or shields, while burning flesh that it slices. Tengu no Iki ignores the reality of the length of Yoshitsune’s weapon, and instead carries out her will to cut a little further than it would be physically possible. Using this, she can extend the range of what her blade can cut without actually altering the weapon itself, thus creating an invisible force that extends from the tip. Unmei Gaeshi is a technique that distorts causality and allows Yoshitsune’s blade to strike its target earlier than she would have originally reached it, thus allowing her to interfere with her opponent’s original action and prevent it before it is begun, making it an ultimate counter. The list continues with other sword techniques that achieve the level of mysteries, eerily similar to the various forms of existing sorcery. |
Skill 03 | Knowledge of Respect and Harmony: B | It is not possible to get used to Yoshitsune’s fighting style no matter how many times she utilizes the same technique on a single foe due to her Knowledge of Respect and Harmony skill. It is the ability to “render one’s attacks unreadable to the enemy”, so even abilities such as instinct cannot adapt to her fighting style after crossing blades many times. Considering much of her fighting style is based on perfected techniques that become less effective once the opponent knows of them, this ability greatly increases their effectiveness by preventing them from being able to see through her techniques even after retreating and challenging her again numerous times, always forced back to square one and fought as if it is the first encounter again. As her opponents try to perceive her Tengu no Waza, they will find themselves unable to clearly picture the techniques in their mind, whether to counter them or dare copy them; attempting to do so will result in mistakes and miscalculations that serve as openings to Yoshitsune. |
Skill 04 | Charisma: C+ | Yoshitsune is arguably the most famous commander in Japan’s history, rivalled perhaps by only Oda Nobunaga. She was a figure blessed with charisma by the Tengu King, allowing her to raise an army of her own under the name of the Minamoto clan, and lead them to many a victory until her death. She was a natural genius at warfare, taught the tactics of the battlefield by a demon while also being inhumanly insightful. While she never rose to possess the same aura of a king, there is no doubt that she went as far as she could as a general of Japan. Any army under her command will surely know the taste of victory. |
Class Skills Skill 01 | Presence Concealment: D | Yoshitsune, despite being of the Assassin class, barely qualifies as a true assassin. She does not excel at the ability of Presence Concealment as other Assassins do, nor does she even come close to rivalling them. She was not an Assassin in her lifetime, but a general. Rather, her ability to hide herself is that of a simple martial artist, blending into the surroundings and suppressing her presence, only making it difficult to detect her but not impossible. If she can already be seen, then this ability is useless, and she rarely utilizes it anyways. The main purpose of Yoshitsune’s Presence Concealment is that of scouting, keeping in shadows to merely observe, gather information, and retreat. So long as she is not being actively searched for, she is able to keep herself hidden from others. |
Skill 02 | Independent Action: A | Yoshitsune’s primary class skill as an assassin is not her Presence Concealment, but rather, her Independent Action, which allows her to essentially work without being anchored to a master. It is not necessary for her to be supplied with the magical energy of a master as she is capable of replenishing it on her own through methods such as rest, nourishment, or shifting into spirit form, so long as the loss of energy is not greater than the gain. This means Yoshitsune can indefinitely maintain herself as a Heroic Spirit without a contract, barring the use of her Noble Phantasm, while maintaining her body.
Additionally, Yoshitsune is free to act as she wishes even under a master’s contract, feeling no pressure from commands given to her except those backed by Command Spells. She can be forced by the use of command spells, but she even possesses a natural resistance to those as well that allows her to disobey them. If a single command spell is used, she can ignore it, but suffers a reduction to all statistics as a servant by one for as long as she does not heed it, and if two command spells are used on the same order, then only that will completely bend her to her master’s will. |
Noble Phantasm | Senbon Zakura: Obscurity of the Final Act | Rank: A++ | Type: Anti-Unit (Self) | Senbon Zakura is two things: The first is a Japanese play chronicling the endeavors of Minamoto Yoshitsune, most significantly the victory of her clan over the rivalling Taira clan, displaying her to be a great general. It is one of many different tales told of her life, each one beholden to different feats she was said to have achieved with no one laying claim to the absolute truth of his past. Despite being perhaps the greatest figure in Japanese history, much of Yoshitsune’s life is shrouded in mystery even to this day, and because of that, the recounting of her legend is all that much more fantastical. This serves as the origin to what the second thing that Senbon Zakura is; Yoshitsune’s noble phantasm is a Reality Marble that goes by such a name, created not in her lifetime, but rather by the fables told of the people afterwards, which continue to stand strong. The theme of Yoshitsune’s Reality Marble is that of “Vagueness.”
The Reality Marble is initiated with a ten-versed incantation, as Yoshitsune turns her blade inward toward herself with both hands, as if in preparation for the act of seppuku. This represents how the details of her death were unclear, and there was a question of whether or not she truly did die at all. It was said by some that she committed seppuku, and told by others that she escaped and lived on to become someone else; there was no clear answer. Once the incantation is complete, Yoshitsune follows through with the implied suicide, stabbing herself through the stomach with her own blade, but instead of suffering a lethal wound, she dissipates into a whirlwind of cherry blossom petals that gradually expand to encompass the area in the bounded field of her Reality Marble. The imagined world is a flat expanse under a night sky, with an endless forest of cherry blossom trees filling up every acre of it. A gentle breeze persists throughout the area that constantly changes directions, swerving and spiralling to Yoshitsune’s whim, carrying the thousands of pink petals from the trees through the air and to the ground softly.
While within this world, Yoshitsune’s Presence Concealment transcends a simple skill and becomes an ability on the level of true magic, jumping all the way up to the rank of EX; something unquantifiable. Her presence is completely erased, rendering her invisible to the eye, silent to the ears, scentless to the nose, numb to the touch, and tasteless to the tongue. She becomes one with the world itself, only ever displaying her position by manipulating the environment. Even supernatural sixth senses have difficulty reacting to Yoshitsune’s presence in this world, tending to be too vague or too slow to be effective. Due to the lack of sensual feedback for her opponents, they will tend to end up discovering horrible wounds on their body without realizing when it had been dealt to them, as they would not have felt it. Yoshitsune could mercilessly cut them down before they realized what was going on. However, the moment Yoshitsune goes in for an attack, the Presence Concealment is reduced, and there are subtle hints that can be used to just barely manage to defend against her.
Becoming one with the world around her, however, is not something to be taken lightly. It is not simply the act of becoming invisible. When Yoshitsune does this, she discards her physical form and the limitations that come with it. No longer does she have to heed to being in one place at one time, or moving at a certain speed. She is a part of the world, and she controls moves at her will. Yoshitsune’s spirit can be found in the thousands of cherry blossom petals that roam the air, and the very wind itself that carries it. These petals can form shapes and images that she imagines for the people trapped within, including that of herself. She can also use the petals as an extension to her blade, allowing their edges to cut with deadly force for each one that touches their body. Together, she can create the illusion that she herself is attacking them, but disperses into petals if when she is attacked in return, giving the impression that she is invincible in this world.
While Senbon Zakura makes it incredibly difficult to fight against Yoshitsune, it does not provide any increase to offensive output for her, making it a mostly defensive Noble Phantasm. As far as Reality Marbles go, this one is one of the more efficiently run imagined worlds, and can be maintained for extended periods of time, or multiple times over. However, as it is still a Reality Marble, the magical energy consumption is greater than any other ability in her repertoire. |

[PTab=Profile]Character Details Height / Weight : 168 cm / 55 kg
Source : Gikeiki, the Chronicle of Yoshitsune
Home Region : Japan
Alignment : Chaotic Neutral
Gender : Female Personality While she has led an army, achieved many a victory, and slain many a foe, it is easy to forget that Yoshitsune was quite a young girl and had the mind of one as well. She does not fully understand the implications of everything that she does quite yet, nor the consequences as a result. She is considered to be very naive, unassuming, and confident to the point of recklessness. She possesses no fear on the battlefield because she was simply blessed with talent and charisma and has not had the experience of age to understand the depth of life. Right and wrong, good or evil; Yoshitsune doesn’t particularly lean toward either, preferring to do what feels best to her. It can be called selfishness, but is more of a result of not realizing the two sides well. What speaks to her most is honor, skill, and kindness: Those who spend the time to befriend her or share her views are people she gets along with well.
Yoshitsune’s gifts from the Tengu King cannot be discounted, which are seen when she fights or leads her soldiers upon the battlefield. There, she is almost a different person entirely as the insight and cleverness of a commander are borrowed, and therefore unnatural. Nonetheless, she is a general who does not know defeat, confidently employing orthodox and unorthodox tactics without even a hint of hesitation as she is so assured of victory. She will honor her enemies but show no mercy, unafraid of cutting down those who oppose her. In personal combat however, this alternate personality fades away and Yoshitsune displays a more playful side to herself. She is still brave, but is still only a child at heart. Even until the point she is dealt a fatal blow, she can enjoy herself in a fight just as well as if she were playing a game.
Yoshitsune also displays several of her own talents she’s always had from birth, one of them being her sharp wits, and tendency to humor. Despite being youthful, she isn’t afraid to act flirtatious with other men much older than her, and displays her shamelessness in her dress. She is attuned to music, her instrument of choice being that of the flute, and enjoys others ways of expressing herself such as poetry and art. Studies and responsibilities bore her, and the concept of education has always disliked, considering that she was a natural genius, and her abilities were given to her. In that way, Yoshitsune can be quite spoiled and unsympathetic to hardship. History Few samurai loom as largely in Japanese history and lore as Minamoto Yoshitsune, the brilliant general whose tactics won a string of victories for her brother Yoritomo that culminated in the demise of the Taira clan. Much of her past is vague—especially the youth and final moments of her life—and many variations exist that have culminated to the point of pure fantasy, but despite that there is no person in Japan that does not know her name.
Yoshitsune was a daughter of Minamoto Yoshitomo, who was born with the name of Ushiwakamaru. From the very first moment she was thrust into conflict with a rival clan of the name Taira. Her father was slain by them, and she and her family were taken as well but spared. By the clan’s decree, the family would be split up, as Yoshitsune’s brother Yoritomo was sent to the province of Izu, while she herself was moved to the Kurama Temple near Kyoto. These were the results of the Heiji Rebellion her father had taken part of, as the Taira clan had rose to power at their expense. Yoshitsune, still a young girl under the name Ushiwakamaru, would be raised at this temple, just an average child of the Minamoto family until the King of all Tengu, Sōjōbō, came to her to teach her the Tengu Art of War.
With the gifts of swordsmanship, tactics, and magic given to her by the demon, she cast away her adolescent name and took on her proper name, Minamoto no Yoshitsune, deciding to fight for what she felt was right now that she had the capability. She left the temple and escaped her captors from the Taira clan, only with the intent to one day return to defeat them. It was during her escape through Kyoto that Yoshitsune would participate in her first combat since learning from the Tengu, as a sword-collecting stranger stopped her at the Gojo Bridge. It was said that this man, Benkei Musashibou, stopped every swordsman that passed and challenged them to a fight for their sword. He had collected nine-hundred and ninety-nine blades and sought Yoshitsune’s as the final piece. However, the inhuman ability that Yoshitsune displayed not only defeated the monk, but impressed him to such a degree that from that point on the man declared himself a retainer to Yoshitsune.
The legend of Yoshitsune only continued to grow from that day onward, as she returned to her clan to find her brother Yoritomo as its head. He had raised an army to fight against the Taira clan at the request of Prince Mochihito, as the enemy clan had usurped the power from the former emperor. The moment she joined and took leadership of an army, the tides of war had changed in her favor. For every man or woman who discounted her for her gender or age, Yoshitsune rebutted through her heavenly ability, and continued to achieve victory for her clan. She defeated her rival Yoshinaka Minamoto, and led to the fall of the Taira clan through a series of battles between the two factions. Benkei would only be the first of many to recognize Yoshitsune’s ability, but for the same reason they would laud her, her own brother would find her as a threat.
After all conflicts had been resolved for the Minamoto clan, she would be betrayed by Yoritomo at the final Battle of Koromo River, something that she would never have expected. He used his position as the clan’s head to force Yoshitsune to commit seppuku, and for some, this was to be the tragic end for the legendary samurai. However, the truth of her death has been lost like many other aspects of her history, and there are many stories that say her life did not end here. Instead, it is said she escaped the trap and fled to live on in Hokkaido under a different name, and from that point on the many accounts branch of into fantastical, impossible stories. Some even say she went on to become the warlord Genghis Khan.... [/PTab][/PTabbedContent={width:430px;tab-alignment=center;}] |
