Rin wasn’t often one to ever eat alone, especially when she was back in her youth days and had something that resembled a popular appearance. She wasn’t particularly anti-social either and trying to avoid company on purpose either. In fact, she was a rather talkative type and preferred talking to others as opposed to being left alone to her studies, assuming said others held some trace of intelligence or sensitivity in them. Though at some point in her life, Rin had found herself alone once more and thus she was often left alone to eat her meals, save for the occasional obnoxious guy who interrupted her.
Perhaps it was the fact she never really grew close to anyone during her time at the clock tower aside from her former lover, Shirou Emiya, and her furious rival, Luvia Edelfelt. Now that she and Shirou had drifted somewhat apart and Luvia was still throwing accusations of her being a thief, the young Tohsaka found that she really didn’t connect with many people during her time as a mage. However, tonight that would hopefully be changed…
Though CHALDEA deemed it a mess hall, it was far from the type that might be seen at the typical High School or prison space, ironic since so far CHALDEA had seemed like a weird prison full of high schoolers. Nevertheless, the mess hall seemed to reflect a more elegant and prestigious side of Chaldea with the wide variety of fine foods and overall soothing setting. Rin got herself a tray and decided to get a traditional meal of rare steak and potatoes with a salad on the side.
After paying, she went over and grabbed a seat by the balcony, which offered a fine view of CHALDEA’s lower levels and the various staff and servants that were continuously running from one place to another. The Tohsaka girl swirled her wine glass a bit before taking a sip and letting a slight sigh, but she would wait for her guests before she stated in on her makeshift meal.
Looking over, she noticed what was either Grainne or Natasha walking over. Depending on who it was, Rin would either wave at the Irish mage or call out to the blind one.

While Rin was certainly welcome to her view and had surely noticed her sightless date, Natasha had no such hopes of returning the favour – but, it was hard to fault the blonde on her disability when she looked quite so graceful. In the midst of the magi and Servants whom often ran amok, her lack of sight was practically a bastion of composure. Chaldea’s teasing big sister… or, to some, perhaps even a surrogate parent. Natasha wouldn’t ever make such claims about herself like those titles, but it was clear with the way she held herself that she tried to live up to those standards. There was no doubt she was just as mad as everyone else with her laziness and flirting; but, despite everything, she still bore a gentle step and a gentle smile.
It was funny, really. The one person she put on this look for was never by her side.
But, the glassy-eyed lady would recognise Rin’s greeting with a gradual nod; cane tapping audibly against the ground ahead of her as she manoeuvred herself through the mess hall to greet her unlikely host. It seemed that Natasha had been hard at work for once, as her typically heavier figure was currently quite lithe; although her height still made her loom over Rin all the same. Always one to take an excuse to dress up, she was currently clad in a black blouse akin to her more typical white one; albeit alongside a pair of black tights and heels. However, her outfit was predominantly dominated by the buckled white coat wrapped tightly around herself; clearly made for fashion rather than functionality.
Despite her reputation and bizarre pride in her appetite, Natasha sat down opposite Rin without getting a meal first – if the magus paid attention, she could no doubt see the lady’s hands nudging and following one surface after another in order to guide her way around the table; a graceful yet perhaps pitiful display... but, it didn’t seem to slow her down one bit. With the same dignity and gentle smile she had arrived with, Natasha sat down. ”Mm, good evening. It smells like you have good taste, Miss Tohsaka… but, having your steak rare? That’s quite interesting. I can admire that, fufu.”
With a tiny smirk of mischief, Natasha seemed to relax in that moment, her glassy blue eyes staring in Rin’s direction with an added ease to their gaze. ”Before you ask, I will be getting my meal quite soon… I just wanted to get acquainted with you first. Besides, you’ll need the head-start, right? I would like to give some small talk, too; but I can’t exactly talk about the weather, can I?” purred the blonde, seeming just happy to chatter away; ”Well, you did ask me out on the pretence of some magical business, right? What kind of magecraft do you use, Miss Tohsaka? Though, I imagine we all get the question constantly around here… ah, perhaps it’s best you ask the questions, eheheh…”

The brunette had gone straight for the food, in hindsight it may have been more polite to go and put her things down and welcome her two companions before going to do so but she’d lost track of time reading about some obscure Russian bogatyr with a name she couldn’t actually pronounce and had totally forgotten to eat lunch. Or more than an apple for breakfast. That was nothing new, time seemed to flow differently whenever she was occupied. Ignoring the quirked brow of one of the members of staff, grey eyes scanned the area in an attempt to find her two companions.
She spotted them quite quickly, she’d always been quick to find things and she was eagerly about to approach them when she faltered. What was she doing? They were both lovely women, her own age with experiences that would no doubt be similar to her own. That was a good way to start off a friendship wasn’t it? Sort of? Maybe?
They’d said it was a date, but had that meant she had to dress up? Grainne damn well hoped so, because it would have been awkward if she’d been the only one to make an effort, a fan of comfier clothes (they were the best things to wear when it came to sitting down and losing yourself in the library after all) she’d opted for a dress and that nice pair of heels that put her at that convenient height where she was taller than most women and shorter than men on the taller end of the scale. A tad embarrassing considering her usual preferences, and she couldn’t help but feel a little self-conscious, in the Association she could swallow that. But this was a friendly dinner with two other magi, this wasn’t a place where the cool, competent mask was needed, she’d never had a friendly relationship with another magus, even her relationship with her grandmother was cool at best and considered icy. In all honesty she was at a loss.
And being at a loss was far more unsettling than she’d ever care to admit.
“Sincerest apologies, I was caught up trying to shove as much food onto one plate as possible without people judging. How are you both?”
The Irishwoman called out to the other two as she made her way to the table. A soft chuckle escaped her lips which, when combined with her Irish lilt and cheery smile, made it seem like she had never been nervous in the first place. If there was anything Grainne was good at, it was hiding how she really felt. Although had previously been more of a case of hiding her disgust through and composed mask rather than her nervousness and rapidly beating heart behind a cheery smile. She sat down in an empty space, placing her tray down before taking a seat. In other situations she may have reached towards them and embraced them in a farcical attempt at caring, but she refrained from doing so, this wasn't an attempt at caring for once after all. This was actually sort of genuine, they were both damn interesting women after all.

The Tohsaka mage was somewhat surprised by the mage Natasha’s impeccable sense of smell, not only detecting
the meat on her plate, but the quality of it as well! Rin had to wonder if this was from another source of magecraft, or if her senses had been pushed to max sensitivity by her blindness. Regardless, Rin decided against commenting on it and instead welcomed her new guest with a small grin and lightly touched the blind girl’s hand in order to establish her presence. It had a rather nice and warm feel to it, comforting at the very least even if she had been infected by whatever the strange liquid was.
“Good evening to you too Miss Natasha, you’re looking rather lovely yourself! And yeah I just started taking it this way,” Rin prodded the steak lightly with her fork for emphasis, cringing slightly by how much the meat seemed to bleed. “I think I prefer when my meat has a bit more err, juice to it…”
Now that Rin had the opportunity to get a closer look at the blind magus, she could see a bit of what made her so attractive in the first place, she certainly had a good choice in wardrobe and her curbs were rather ample even when she was at this weight. Though the height intimidated Rin at first, seeing as the blond towered over the oriental mage by about 20 centimeters, Rin was starting to get used to the fact that she was more often than not on the shorter side of everyone in CHALDEA. Though Natasha’s elegance in navigating around the table did impress Rin, it was her forwardness that seemed to shock her even more.
“Hmmph, I suppose I’ll need that head start if what I heard about your appetite is true, hoho~” Rin chuckled at the tease, though the next question had her quite hooked in!
“Eh, that question isn’t thrown around as frequently as one might think here miss Natasha,” Rin mused as she was somewhat taken aback from the comment on the weather, Natasha seemed to jest about her own blindness more than anyone else in the organization did it seemed. “I try to keep my own practices general, though my main focus is into Transferal of Magic as well as Second Magic as a general whole. I’m trying to build off of my predecessor Zeltretch’s work and so far…” Rin was interrupted from her oncoming babbling thankfully by the Irish Mage who had arrived recently afterwards.
“Ahh Miss Grainne hello!” Rin looked over and shot her a warm smile as the other woman sat close by, having crammed as much food on her plate as she could beforehand in complete opposition to the blind magus. “Glad you could make it, I was just about to tell the lovely Miss Natasha here about the wonders and applications of second magic, but you’re more than welcome to join us!” Rin of course did not mind the added company, in fact it gave her quite the audience and a Tohsaka loved nothing more than an audience!
“Ahh, but I never got around to ask, Grainne what magic do you specialize in?”

The touch of her hand earned a gentle nod from Natasha; seeming to appreciate the moment even though it appeared that the blonde didn’t need the reassurance. Similarly, Rin’s compliments would be with a somewhat brighter smile than Natasha’s usual gentle expression, clearly enjoying the attention – if there was anything she was a sucker for, it was flattery… it was a shame that she couldn’t read Rin’s mind in that moment, as the blonde would have no doubt been shining with pride at such attention to her looks. Perhaps it seemed bizarre for someone blind to care so much for her appearance, but perhaps that was an answer in-of itself. ”Well, I am starving, for once. Or, maybe it’s better to say that I’m always starving; but today more-so than usual. Well… maybe that’s not right either; even I have an upper-limit to how big I’d rather be…”
Thankfully, Natasha’s musings on her appetite was intercepted by the beginning of Rin’s discussion of her magic; earning a raise eyebrow while Grainne was on her way. ”You’re aiming for one of the True Magics? That’s quite extraordinary, isn’t it? I thought only the biggest families aimed for that sort of thing… or, are you from one of the grandest families after all? I really don’t get involved in the Association’s politics, so I’m afraid I’m utterly clueless...” replied Natasha curiously, albeit then being distracted by Grainne’s greeting.
The Irish woman’s voice was like a warm blanket… and her dusty scent was rather pleasing too; a perfume in its own right compared to the clinical state of most of Chaldea. But, her words earned a frown from Natasha – a pouty, grumpy look that made rather a mockery of the lady’s usual grace; making her look a bit like a displeased kid. Yet another kid here stealing her style…! She couldn’t stand for this! She had to make a show of force – shock and awe! ”Hm, so Grainne makes her appearance… I assure you I’m doing quite alright. But, I am starving, so I should take my leave and get my dinner – I hope I don’t miss much.”
While the others were left to handle Rin’s question to Grainne, Natasha would dart away (well, as fast as she could given her disability) to snag a tray of her own with concerningly practiced motions – the serving staff seemed a bit worried by her fierce expression, too. The blonde would soon return to the table, though; with a similarly packed tray to her brunette compatriot’s… though one had to wonder why she was insistent on so much meat rather than vegetable. ”Alright, my entrée is ready. Let’s begin, shall we?”

Perhaps she really had come at a bad time, it appeared that she had interrupted a conversation of some sort with her presence, usually she would have sat down and continued but usually she was at the Association or with her grandmother’s companions, some of them old overly jovial men who were old when her grandmother was in the height her youth. To chat with people her own age with similar experiences to her own (or at least she suspected they’d have similar experiences) was totally alien. Grainne wasn’t fully aware of what was expected of her and what was considered rude in this situation. It wasn’t like she hadn’t interacted with people her own age before but they had been school friends who knew a different side of her, the sort she’d go to the pub with on a weekend, not the type she’d discuss magecraft and Clock Tower with.
Grainne eyed Natasha carefully as she approached, she’d always been under the impression that being blind would create a semblance of clumsiness but she could find no hint of it in the blonde’s movement or the way she carried herself. Only grace and a certain sort of nobility. For a moment she couldn’t help but wonder if Natasha was a member of one of those old aristocratic families who were naturally graceful because it seemed to be a part of their very nature or if she was just like that as a person. Of course there was every chance that she was like that Ruari girl and thought she was a princess because she owned horses but for some reason she doubted that.
Which made her more than a little upset when the other left to get food, it would have been nice if they’d had the chance for more of a conversation before, but she supposed there was time for that afterwards. She turned her attention to the only Easterner among them, second magic huh? Impressive, exciting even but she did her best to hide her amazement she didn’t want their whole dynamic to become tainted by talks of power and what not.
“My family’s branch of magecraft lies in Druidism, probably a bit more…visual in its application than one might expect. Was that the answer you were hoping for, Miss Rin? It’s nothing as exciting as the Second Magic but it’s something.” The Irishwoman mused, her tone still jovial as she took a sip of wine, she would have explained in further detail if Natasha hadn’t arrived with her food.
“Your…entrée?” The brunette paused, she had heard that the other was a big eater but she’d had no idea that she was that much of a big eater it was both impressive and ever so slightly startling. Unsure of what else to say the brunette simply grinned. “Amazing, you’ve got good taste.”

The Tohsaka shrugged slightly at Natasha’s response, cutting her rare Steak Diane into small and consumable pieces as she listened. It did come as a slight shock to her ego that the girl had heard about true magics and yet the name of the Tohsaka family remained unknown to her. “Never heard of the Tohsaka line of magus? Well, I suppose someone who turned a blind eye to the Clock tower wouldn’t know much about the greater magical families. My line was meant to succeed the great master Schweinorg one day, but so far we’ve only made footsteps where he has made grand strides,” Rin began to explain before Natasha ran off to fill her plate.
Rin gave a friendly nod as Natasha left to get her dinner for the night, despite the fact the blind glutton likely wouldn’t see it. It was quite interesting just how swift and graceful the blond was with her movements and how easy it was for her to navigate around the cafeteria despite her inability to see anything in front of her. If Rin had a less proper tongue, she would’ve commented more on how beautiful and elegant the other mage acted and how respectful she seemed. Perhaps that was why she had garnered respect of some of the other mages here and Rin was pleased to meet another lady of fine elegance and some degree of order amongst all the chaos witnessed here so far.
Rin’s musing however were cut short as the Irishwoman began to explain her own mage craft, albeit in brief detail. “Druid magic ?” Rin put one of her gloved hands to her chin in contemplation of the thought as the work of druids applied to a lot of magecraft. Alchemy, communion with nature and beasts, runic magecraft? Irish and English both seemed to use magical applications that were completely different from the onmyouji and crystal techniques an oriental mage like herself was used to. “Visual magecraft, as in application of illusions?” Now this was strange indeed, Rin would never tie together such magic with druidic ritual. However, before Rin could make any inquiry, she was interrupted by the blind mage slamming a tray full of meats onto the table. Honestly, was Rin the only one without the appetite of a mammoth?
Nevertheless, Tohsaka wasn’t about to draw attention to the little eating competition the two were having and instead merely sipped her whiskey and nodded to Natasha, “alright let’s get started.”
With that, Rin unbuttoned her red overcoat and revealed her plain white shirt and black blouse she often wore underneath, allowing for some air to flow back into her skin. Following proper table etiquette as was expected of a Tohsaka, Rin planted a napkin onto her lap and began to put a few pieces of steak in her mouth as she conversed with the other two mages.
“Well it seems that by now we have a pretty firm idea of eachothers’ respective magecrafts, hoho. But ladies, I bring you here on a more important matter entirely. The boys and girls here, got any takers?” Rin stated with a smirk, almost certain to get a small reaction from the other two rather from interest in any of the males here or just annoyance at their adavances.

Unsurprisingly Natasha was a lot less defensive once she had food on her plate and confidence in her status, settling back to her gentle demeanour – albeit with an extra pinch of enthusiasm now that she could indulge herself. ”Druidism! I do know of that one. Do you talk to animals and such? That would be especially lovely!” cheered the blonde, seeming easily entranced by her childish assumptions; although she thankfully cooled off again as her appetite was complimented. ”Ah, it comes with the territory, doesn’t it? I don’t know much magic here, so I had to learn something. I took the practical choice, hahah.”
Much to her displeasure, though; Rin insisted on hurrying things along past magecraft before Natasha could say much – okay, admittedly, she didn’t have much to say on the matter anyway, but she felt a bit crummy to be left out! Giving a displeased frown, the Russian would just decide to start chowing down instead; probably seeming like she must be starving with her eager appetite. Her companion’s crass question earned a brief pause in her meal, though; pouting slightly. Was this really what the girl had been plotting since the start.
”Are we talking actual relationships, or just saying who’s attractive? Because I’m afraid I’m taken, ufufu. The lovely Ai is my date; an adorable puppy of a girl. Tiny, sweet and shy. Perfect for me, hoho.” bragged Natasha as soon as she could, all too eager to talk about how great her date is despite how little time they’d really known each other for. ”But, if we’re talking about everyone… ah, it’s rather messy, isn’t it? There’s so many new people here now, it’s tough to keep up. Can’t we make things a bit simpler?”
”But, if I have to pick and choose… Merlin’s a very charming gentleman; a darling Servant. I’ve been on a mission with him, and he was very considerate. Apart from drenching me with water, anyway. And, Doctor Roman… he’s very cute when he gets flustered; though he doesn’t have a lot of time off.” mused the Russian, frowning a little – ech, she felt like she was doing females a disservice talking like this. Shouldn’t they be talking about something a bit less cliché? But, then again… she doubted these two got to talk about this sort of thing often, either. ”Err… well, Sir Mordred seems nice enough too, but I think he’s taken anyway. Um… well, I suppose Miss Tohsaka is a bit cute, so that might be an alright bet, too…”

“If only, my dear,” Grainne answered wistfully, perhaps Druidism was a weird, vague way of categorizing what she did, it was a method not anything else but…well she had familiars. Did that count? Granted said familiars were currently in Ireland, her connection to her grandmother that was far more reliable than any sort of telephone. Perhaps it didn’t count. Talking to animals may have come in handy though, an army of squirrels to throw nuts at her enemies would have been much more useful than her current arsenal of spells, reinforcement and a healing spell. Utility wise they were…decent she supposed but it was frustrating to not have access to everything like she did when in Chaldea.
However she was sure Rin and Nat felt the same so bringing up a lack of utility on the field was pointless, so she simply opted to go with the flow of the conversation.
“And I suppose a fine appetite comes with a fine palette too?” Grainne found herself genuinely curious, taking a bite from the arrangement of food on her own plate. She’d always thought that there was an entire world of food out there that she would never get the pleasure of trying simply because she didn’t have the appetite to sample it all. Or the will to move around that much. You know, a real magus shouldn’t really stray too far from the land they had a connection with, bad things tended to happen when such a matter occurred. Damn, she was happy that her relatives stayed where they were even when things got rough.
Moving swiftly on…
The grey eyed woman listened quite intently to Natasha’s talk about this Ai person, she hadn’t thought that the blonde swung…that way. Not that there was anything wrong with that! She just couldn’t imagine having feelings for another woman like that. Especially ones who were tiny and sweet, she’d never been a big girl, taller than average and willowy yes but never big so the idea of a tiny lover seemed…meh. Kenneth Murphy, the man she had thought was the love of her life (until he got married to some Welsh girl when they were twenty give) had been a lanky thing, but not tiny. She didn’t understand why people even lik—oh gosh why was she even thinking about this? Opting to stop dwelling on such a thing, she instead decided to comment on Natasha’s what if choices.
“I mean what sort of young magus hasn’t wanted to spend time with Merlin? The fact that he’s here is awfully exciting if you ask me.” So exciting that it almost gave her a heart attack when someone told her, then again she almost had a heart attack whenever she was around a Heroic Spirit. “I suppose Miss Rin is rather lovely, so I’m curious as to what her type is.”
Awkward question avoided!

Some of these answers were indeed to be expected, all were good potential partners as men or women, and even Merlin had a certain charm that few girls could ever resist. However, Rin almost gagged on her piece of steak in shock as Natasha seemed to add her to her list of suitable partners aside from the lovely Aoi. Grace she somewhat could expect, but Natasha well, was every mage in CHALDEA in some way shape or form trying to get into her pants? The best thing for her to do now was to wipe the evident and awkward blush off her face and come up with a solid retort, or as solid of one as she could manage.
“W-well I can’t fault you for your tastes, Merlin certainly is a great man to be around, even if he is a bit whimsical and very tongue-in-cheek at the best of time,” Rin slowly regained her composure as she started to dig in to her newest mentor. “I mean, it’s awkward to date your teacher though so I’ll have to pass on him…”
Rin merely stared at her plate when it was her turn to confess who she had feelings for, something she was good at teasing others about, but she herself had a hard time expressing honestly. Stuffing another piece of the rare meat into her mouth, she chewed rather slowly in comparison to the blond who merely gobbled up her meal, perhaps it was just to savor the flavor as opposed to sate any sort of appetite she might have. After she swallowed the chunk down, the magus cleared her throat and readied her own reply.
“Hmm , aside from Merlin I suppose Chulainn can be rather witty at the best of times, same thing goes for my lousy old servant Emiya, though I did just breaks things off with his younger self…” Rin started as she plunged her fork into another chunk of meat, making it bleed out a bit before consuming it in the same manner as the first, wiping off the spare sauce with a napkin. “For woman however well, it would be rather egotistic to pick myself as well hoho. I suppose if we’re going around with flattery, Grace is rather fun to be with and Natasha does the words elegant and graceful justice…”
Now Rin just wanted to get off the topic, it had been a mistake to bring it up and now she had to move on to avoid things from going bad to worse. “Ahem, now that that’s out of the way it seems I forgot to ask Natasha about her magic, though I think I have a very good idea…”
