Personal Skills Skill 01 | Combination :: Rank C | A skill that represents those whose legend was shared with someone else. They might be inseparable couples, battle companions, or even twins, but a common link between them all was that their legends won’t be complete if one is mentioned without the other. Thanks to the bond that reinforced these legends, it’s possible for those (Anti) Heroic Spirits to be summoned as a ‘single set servant’, two existences that was bound within a single instance of summon. While there are no penalties towards their attributes, one of them collapsing will cause the other(s) to unable to fight as well, under most circumstances (barring certain skills or Noble Phantasms that allow them to do just that).
The tale of Scylla and Charybdis mention the two Magical Beasts as the terror of the high seas, absolute calamities that were presented as insurmountable challenges that awaited those who would brace the storms. No less than direct Divine Interventions were required to even survive against the obstacle that the two of them represent. Their name have been synonymous with misfortune ever since, even long after the Age of the Gods are but memories of a distant time.
Because supplying the needs for two entities of this level would place enormous strains to even the most prana-blessed of masters, only either one of Scylla or Charybdis would usually be called to combat while the other stays in spirit form. While they share some skills – being similar entities – they each also have their own area of expertise. Scylla – a child of Witchcraft – is more adept at manipulating natural phenomena. Charybdis – a daughter of Gaia – is more adept at outright destruction. Therefore, their status sheet will change according to which one is ‘active’, with the different personal skills corresponding to the active entity.
Incidentally, the skill is the reason that Charybdis is even summonable at all. Being a child of Gaia, her existence is even more alien than the part-mortal Scylla, and normally won’t be classified even as Anti-Hero. However, her bond with Scylla through this skill allowed a version of her existence to be summoned within the boundaries of the servant summoning system. As a result of being ‘humanized’, her and Scylla both appear as amalgamations of their human-like (the naiad part) and monster-like existences. |
Skill 02 | Divinity :: Rank E- (Scylla) | Rank A (Charybdis) | The measure of whether one has Divine Spirit aptitude or not. At high levels one is treated as a mixed race of a Divine Spirit, and the level declines when the Heroic Spirit's own rank as a Monster, Demonic Beast raises. It can also decrease due one's dislike for the gods. It also has an effect which reduces special defensive values called "purge defense" in proportion to the Divinity's Rank. It can break through Skills such as Protection of the Faith and Enlightenment of the Sacred Figure.
Charybdis is a Divine Beast, the spawn of Poseidon and Gaia itself, as well as one of the most recognizable of that Phantasmal Beast rank. A contemporary (and half-sister) of the more notorious pair of Typhon and Echidna, Charybdis nevertheless is no less destructive. In ancient times, Charybdis was tasked with reducing the territory of land in comparison with the territory of the seas, resulting in the surface of the world we see today. In her Divine Beast guise, she can be called more of a ‘super weapon’ than any living being.
Scylla, on the other hand, is more of a Demonic Beast, having her half-divine form twisted into a more monstrous one as a result of the machinations of her own half-sister. While Charybdis is akin to a natural disaster, indiscriminate in her act of destruction, Scylla is especially deadly to humanity, and have become rather infamous as a monster as a result of that fact. One method of passing the clutches of Scylla and Charybdis is to sail closer to Scylla and sacrifice a number of your crewmen to her. It’s better to lose some men rather than capsize your ship and lose all of them. |
Skill 03 | Monstrous Strength :: Rank A+ | An ability possessed by monsters and beasts. Grants a temporary boost of the Strength parameter by one rank for a condition. For those anti-heroes that possess a monstrous alternate form, repeated usage of this skill typically come with a negative side-effect, such as allowing the monstrous side to become stronger or taking continuous damage as a result of the strain.
For both Scylla and Charybdis however, this skill will activate automatically – and remain activated – as long as they are in contact with a body of water or a similar facsimile. Sufficient enough water conjured by magecraft, for example, is completely compatible in conjunction with this skill. On dry lands or similar situation however, this skill loses its plus modifier and will have to be activated manually. |
Skill 04 | Protection from Fire | Protection from Water :: Rank EX | A skill that offers protection from an aspect of the world. Far from being a simple protection spell, at this level of the skill it can be said that the heroic spirit receives an absolute protection from a specific element, even to the point that exposure to said element can rejuvenate said heroic spirit. Both Scylla and Charybdis possess this skill at the same rank, albeit with two very different aspect of the world.
Charybdis receives this skill’s benefit when exposed to a water element, as is more common for an aquatic phantasmal beast like herself. As a creature that’s more at home in water and actually uses them as weapon, Charybdis has been a part of nature itself when submerged in water. She can submerge herself into a sufficiently large body of water itself in order to be mistaken as a natural disaster, and is very hard to kill when she does so. The skill can even protect her from damage from substances derived from water, such as ice or snow, though the damage protection is diminished and she can't actually be healed by the substance if it's no longer 'water'.
Scylla’s aspect makes her immune and receives accelerated healing when exposed to the fire element. A rarity among aquatic phantasmal beast like herself, the fire attribute was granted to her by her divine father Phorcys even before she ‘obtained’ her more monstrous form. Even an application of a simple torch was enough to revive her form after being slain by the hero Heracles. While she’s not this resilient thanks to the reduced general power of the summoning, she can still heal wounds in seconds when exposed to fire. This skill also protects her from other source of heat, but like Scylla her damage protection is diminished and she can't actually be healed unless it's 'fire'. |
Class Skills Skill 01 | Magic Resistance :: Rank A | Grants protection against magical effects. Naturally greatly resistant to magical effects thanks to being Phantasmal Beasts, even the rank down as a result of the class didn’t deter the effect from being effective for Thaumaturgy at A-rank or below, canceling the effects of the spells altogether. Even if confronted with higher-leveled magecraft of those of the Caster class, their Resistance remain quite effective at reducing damage or the severity of the effects. |
Skill 02 | Riding :: Rank A++ | The ability to ride mounts. The hallmark class skill of the Rider class. At this rank of skill, even Phantasmal Beasts and Divine Beasts can be used as mounts. This skill is granted to both Scylla and Charybdis as the consequences of their shared Phantasm below. |
Noble Phantasm | Incidit In Scyllam, Cupiens Vitare Charybdim - Serene Graveyard of Countless Ships | Rank: A++ | Type: Anti-Unit/Anti-Army/Anti-Fortress/Anti-Country | The shared conceptual noble phantasm of both Scylla and Charybdis. A representation of both their inseparability in contemporary eyes and their more monstrous side in contrast of their more humanoid servant forms. It is, in a sense, a rejection of their granted servant bodies in favor of the forms that they’re more known of in legends. To the world at large their monstrous forms are more ‘iconic’, and so the servant summoning system had seen it fit to replicate it in a more manageable state.
As a passive ability of this phantasm, both Scylla and Charybdis can shape-shift freely between their humanoid naiad forms and their monstrous forms. The details of these forms are written below, but suffice to say that those monstrous forms are uniformly colossal. Building-sized, even. Scylla and Charybdis can also freely utilize this function to ‘partially’ shape-shift in order to adopt some characteristics of their monstrous forms in their humanoid forms.
While the effect of summoning a Divine Beast and a Demonic Beast of their caliber usually would have a much higher rank attached to it thanks to absurd prana consumption, here the summoning system had granted them ‘lesser’ monstrous forms for them to fight with reduced prana cost. In exchange however, their fighting capabilities are reduced to only a fraction of what it would’ve been had an ‘unchained’ summon was initiated.
Another limitation of this phantasm, is that – thanks to the makeup of the class they were summoned as – this phantasm is a ‘mount’ phantasm. Only one of Scylla or Charybdis can assume their monstrous form and its benefits at a time, while the other one acts as the ‘Rider’ of the transformed one. While this has the effect of circumnavigating the drawbacks of the ‘Combination’ skill above, this ‘mode’ obviously consumes more prana than the regular.
The Hundred Serpents of The Shores is Scylla’s monstrous form. Similar to the Hydra, another serpentine monster of Greek origin, Scylla possesses multiple ‘heads’ in this form. Unlike the Hydra however, Scylla’s multiple heads consists of more than just serpentine ones, with those consisting of other beasts head such as wolves and ox and features of aquatic creatures such as an octopus or a mollusk. Her body is also an amalgamation of various living beings, while her skin is as rocky as the shores she lived in, which gives her a certain ‘living island’ quality. She can move freely over sea and ground, but her movement speed suffers while on land.
In the Serpent form, Scylla’s physical stats remained unchanged from her naiad form, at least in its passive state. By invoking this phantasm, however, Scylla could enter a state where her monstrous form is closer to her legend. Her physical stats (STR, END, and AGI) receives a rank up in this invoked form, and she heals much, much faster in this invoked state compared to her ‘regular’ state, even healing decapitation and similar wounds in seconds. Thanks to Scylla’s status as ‘scourge of humanity’, she also retains some of this effectiveness in this invoked state. Any defensive measures of those with pure human traits (no Divinity or other otherworldly origins) are only 50% effective. Those that have a half-heritage in otherworldly lineage but instead still have human origins only suffers a 25% reduction of effectiveness instead. This invoked state can only be maintained for ten turns/posts per thread, though those turns don’t have to be consecutive.
The Ruler of the Depths is Charybdis’ monstrous form. A fleshy amalgamation of various sea creatures, with flippers, tentacles, fins and other aquatic features in the body of a whale-like creature. Like her legend suggests, she can inhale thousands of metric tons of water and exhale it just as easily as she breathes, creating strong water currents that could easily create whirlpools that can suck up ships. While she can move freely underwater, she can also move on land by burrowing herself, though she’s certainly slower on land when compared to underwater.
Like Scylla, Charybdis’ physical stats remained unchanged from her naiad form unless she’s in her invoked state. If she is, Charybdis receives the same bonuses as Scylla to her physical stats and healing. Moreover, in this state, the rank of this phantasm act as specific counter to the skills Navigator of the Storms, Pioneer of the Stars, and other similar skills as long as they’re utilized in a naval context, negating their effects as long as the user(s) is inside the same body of waters as the monstrous Charybdis. This invoked state lasts as long as Scylla’s above. |

[PTab=Profile]Character Details 1 Height / Weight : 172cm/105lbs (Scylla), 160cm/110lbs (Charybdis) Source : Classical/Greco-Roman Mythology Home Region : Strait of Messina, Italy Alignment : Neutral Evil Gender : Female (Both)
Personalities In a way, Scylla hasn’t changed a lot from the innocent, gullible little naiad that she was when she was first conceived, but her monstrous side has also ‘gifted’ her with a vicious streak. She’s taciturn, not much for words, and has minimal social skills, but at the same time she’s also perceptive, deceptively intelligent, and quick to defend herself should the need arise. Just like a territorial animal.
Like a lot of the more mischievous nature spirits, Scylla can be a bit whimsical and chaotic, switching off her attention from one interest to another at record speed if something else interests her. What managed to capture her attention for long, however, is music. Primal music can be heard in the Messina Straits of old, just like the distant, dangerous Siren Rock, and her music just as often enticed sailors to their certain doom.
Scylla seems earnest about her music however, and those sailors being led to their deaths are mostly just accidents thanks to the power of her music. This infectious enthusiasm even led to her partner joining her in her reverie at the nights of old.
While she had been rather reluctant in accepting her role as a scourge of humanity a long time ago, Scylla had adapted herself well to the task. She had managed to master the basest of her urges, and she perfectly reigned herself against needless slaughters and restricted her diet, if only to make the survivors terrified of the unknown and solidified her mother’s position as their patrons. Thanks to her more mortal side, she can actually understand humans rather well for a phantasmal beast, and it made her rather curious about humans in general. However, her general distant proximity to humans made her rather ignorant about human society in general.
Charybdis, in contrast, had plenty of experience with both humans and the gods. Being her father’s herald a long time ago had widen up her vocabulary immensely for a phantasmal beast that’s not one of the more intelligent dragons. She has a taste for grandiose-sounding words and a flair for storytelling, but she never had much patience with runabout words or hidden meanings. When she deigned to speak at all in the past, she doesn’t mince words and her honesty is rather brutal. Now, however, she seems to have taken to speak as much as she wants.
In a personality trait she shares with Scylla, Charybdis is a rather curious creature. Unlike Scylla however, she’s more likely to devote her time into a thing that she enjoys and stick with it for an extended amount of time – musical pursuit notwithstanding. She managed to gain a rather remarkable amount of knowledge for something that’s stuck out in the seas just by looking more closely at the wreckages of ships she sunk.
Charybdis can either be as tempestuous as the storms or as calm as the shores depending when you caught her. A carefree spirit, she’s never malicious in her destructions and disasters, she just believes that it’s part of life. She had no grudge against humanity, and even found their company pretty amusing in the glory days of the Age of the Gods. She also thinks that they taste rather salty and plenty crunchy. Scylla There was once a naiad who lived inside one of the shore rocks of the Mediterranean seas.
The little naiad was a special one. She was not just conceived by the immortal offspring of the seas, but also a half-mortal, water aspect of the Goddess of Crossroads. Physically & mentally, she was no different than her other nautical peers, spending her days whimsically greeting passing ships or just diving deep to play with other nautical creatures.
What she didn’t know however, was that she was destined to become her mother’s tool, a scourge of mortals as a reminder and a cautionary tale of what actually lies in the realm of the Divine. The little naiad was none the wiser about this destiny, believing that her whimsical existence would last forever.
As the little naiad’s beauty grew, so were the numbers of her potential suitors. One of them was a Divinity, a modest River God who nevertheless was sincere in his feelings. Unfortunately for the budding couple, the River God was also fancied by another. An immortal, grand witch who ruled over her own island as a ‘gift’ from the Gods. The witch was a vindictive, jealous sort, and schemed to bring down the relationship so she can have the River God to herself.
She, as it turned out, was also the little naiad’s half-sister.
The machinations of the Goddess of Crossroads continued on. The witch finally concocted a potion most foul, which had the ability to turn the one in contact with it into a monster. The witch discreetly poured the potion into the little naiad’s bathing waters, and watched with glee as the naiad…changed, her form twisted by the potion. While vestiges of her beauty still remains, it was then obscured by an amalgamation of various beasts and nautical nightmares. Her flesh gave birth to numerous shapes, and when the transformation was done only an amorphous amalgamation of numerous living being remained…
The newly-transformed monster cried, and took off to the seas and departed quickly to a scarcely populated area, where no one would be able to look at her now-hideous visage. She then washed up inside a great rock in an unpopulated area and continued her grieving, for no one could hear her there…
…Or so she thought. There was another one who made her home at the area. Charybdis There once was a naiad who traveled freely across the Seven Seas.
She was a child of the world and her seas. Sea water would rise and ebb on her commands, and she had been tasked by the ruler of the seas to deliver his blessings, and also his wrath. The naiad was quickly recognized as the herald of the seas, and her actions quickly became synonymous with the ruler’s mood. Mortals revere her as the one who powered their ships or sunk them, and recognized her as their patrons from then on.
Her benevolent reputation however, didn’t quite last a long time. Soon, the ruler of the seas grow displeased by his sibling’s attempts to curb his own territories by raising more lands out of the depth of the seas. In his wrath, the ruler of the seas tasked his daughter to herald his rage across the seas, and she obliged. Around the world, newly-populated lands drowned overnight with waters so high they reached the skies. Mortal casualties numbered by the millions, and the Divinities agreed that they should stop their hostilities lest they will wipe out the mortals from the face of the Earth.
So, an uneasy truce was formed, and the ruler of the seas reigned his daughter’s actions in order to once again make the seas calm. The ruler of the skies however, saw it fit to not let the naiad came away unscathed. In a deed of unrestrained rage, he cursed the naiad to become as hideous as the powers she commands. When the naiad next woke up, she found her body changed, and she had been struck with a hellish thirst for the very sea water she commanded. The humanoid naiad became something…much more massive and monstrous.
Despite her cursed state, the former naiad had taken her punishment in stride. Her activities didn’t change, but her capability to give the blessings of the seas was severely diminished thanks to her current state and appearance. She then decided to settle inside the waters of a remote location, reigning over her little territory with none to challenge her. The world-wide disaster reduced to a local one. A fitting fate.
Until one day, she found another one intruding upon her territory.
The hostilities between the two of them were brief. Despite her vast powers, the former naiad found that this upstart was every bit as capable of standing her ground despite the difference in experience. She then decided to approach her with a different method. One night, she adopted the guise of her former naiad form – tainted with the vestiges of her curse – and approached the younger one in a friendly manner.
The young one introduced herself as Scylla, and she introduced herself as Charybdis.
From that day on, the unlikely friendship between two cursed existences was formed. Charybdis taught the younger one how to master her curse, and in turn Scylla gave the older one something that she missed: companionship. Together, they made the sea strait that composed their territory a fierce reputation. Even after their surroundings became populated with mortals, their reputation endures, and the strait became a taboo route for a long, long time.
Even long after the Age of Gods has ended, their reputation endures. Miscellaneous Alternate Classes: Berserker, Caster
Berserker: The natural class for a monstrous existence. Summoning both Scylla and Charybdis in this class is an exercise in straining yourself as a Master. Even with their Combination conservation method, one of them as Berserker is still a considerable hog in prana consumption. Using their phantasm is best reserved as a trump card, for it will be a drain unless the Master possesses a prodigious amounts of circuits, like an Einzbern Homunculus for example.
Caster: The class to take advantage of their spirit nature and their naiad forms, summoning them in this class would probably make more sense in a nautical territory, given that they can primarily conjure waters. Their physical stats would probably suffer, but they still possess their monstrous form in a pinch and this is the least likely of their classes to drain their Master. This is also the only class where the skill Combination can be omitted, resulting in Scylla herself acting as a regular solo servant. [/PTab][/PTabbedContent={width:430px;tab-alignment=center;}] |
