Noble Phantasm

[PTab=Profile] Character Details 1 Height / Weight : 2062 cm (67'7")/958kg Source : American Folklore Home Region : North America Alignment : Chaotic Good Gender : Female Appearance In his natural state, Paul Bunyan was the classic image of the American lumberjack. Sturdy and powerfully build, he was as much a mighty oak as he was a man. Square-jawed and with a heavy brow, his features carried the weight of country wisdom and inherent masculinity augmented by his full beard and flashing green eyes. However, due to the mistakes present in his current summoning, Paul's body went through substantial changes as it fused with that of his female ox, Babe. His formerly short, dishwater blonde hair lightened and lengthened into a shower of light blonde locks reaching to his lower back with two especially pronounced bangs ending in accented curls. His muscular mountain man body was similarly changed, taking on Babe's gender to become a slender, curvy image of femininity which would seem far more at home working as a lifeguard than a lumberjack. Finally, his eyes have shifted from flashing green to Babe's sparkling pink and atop his head now rest a pair of impressive dark blue horns. In his natural state, Paul typically preferred simple flannel shirts and worn denim in terms of dress. Due to his fusion with Babe, as well as the effects of Hero of Tall Tales, this is no longer the case. Through Hero of Tall Tales, Paula has come to embody the essence of the American mythological hero. Though that image was originally that of the folk hero, over time the concept of American hero mythology has substantially shifted to reflect the rise of comic book heroes who have a mythology all their own. As such, Paula's appearance as an American hero is reflective of this, embodying images of American superheroes, tights and all. Babe's inclusion, in addition to shifting Paul's gender, had additional influences, shifting the costume's primary color to a deep blue matching her fur as well as glistening orange reflective of her hooves. While it is not a true Noble Phantasm, another staple of Paula's wardrobe is a large, double headed ax scaled up to match her own monstrous size. Utilized by Paul to fell entire rows of trees with a single swing, the ax is a fine tool and a mighty weapon in its own right. Though she prefers to battle with her bare hands, Paula will resort to the ax if necessary and the craftsmanship and mystery behind it is potent enough to allow this spiritual weapon of Paul Bunyan to withstand multiple exchanges against Noble Phantasms. Personality As a fused Heroic Spirit, Paula Bunyan's personality is in a state of constant flux. One one hand, Paul Bunyan was a true man's man, rugged, confident, and assertive enough to captivate and inspire all those around him. On the other hand, despite her incredible power, Babe the ox was an incredibly timid creature, easily frightened and prone to emotional outbursts with relatively little provocation. As for Paula, Paul's personality is generally the more dominant one, giving her a burning confidence and natural charisma along with confidence and certainty when focused on a goal. However, Babe's influence has the potential to cause her to overreact to small slights against her which would normally roll off Paul's back without incident or gravitate towards excessive attention-seeking due to a blending of Paul's desire to please others and Babe's relative emotional immaturity. Additionally, Babe's softer, more flippant nature has given Paula a much deeper appreciation for all things cute than Paul ever had as well as a slight need for attention. That fluctuation aside, Paul and Babe are always in perfect alignment with respect to the defense and betterment of human civilization. Though it was perhaps a self-defeating path in that the rise of American civilization would inevitably lead to their own decline, Paul and Babe simply could not bring themselves to abandon a people in need of aid when they were in a position to improve said people's lives. Reflecting this, Paula has something of a martyr complex, always putting the happiness of others before her own while wearing her big heart on her sleeve. Outgoing and personable to a fault, is something of a social butterfly and finds it quite easy to make friends. However, while Paula can make friends easily, trading anything from funny stories to more rambunctious jokes as easily as the next man, she sometimes struggles to make deeper connections. Unfortunately, the same passionate personalities that allowed Paul and Babe to draw so many people around him, can sometime make Paula a bit difficult to deal with. As previously stated, Babe's influence has made Paula into something of a diva who thrives on attention. Though it is not so pronounced that she would go out of her way to undercut others for her own benefit, her mood will noticeably damped if left out of the spotlight for too long. On the other hand, Paul's dynamic personality can be a problem unto itself, compelling Paula to take energetic, decisive action without always fully thinking through a situation. History Paul Bunyan's bloodline stretches back countless decades, winding through Great Britain all the way to the Middle East. However, as time went on, giants as a whole began to slowly fade away both due to the gradual decline of mystery in the ever-evolving world as well as frequent conflicts with mankind with numerous heroes gaining fame specifically due to their tales of slaying giants. This practice became especially prevalent during the reign of King Arthur in the twilight era of mystery before the king's famous spear brought the world fully into the modern era. With many giants fleeing to the far side of the world and more still remaining to be slaughtered, Paul's family alone made the journey across the sea to try and find a peaceful existence in a land still relatively untouched by the onward march of modernization. For a time, they were able to find the peace and tranquility they had sought out but before long, they too gave way to the horrors of time until only young Paul remained, a gigantic infant raised in the care of the some of the first settlers in the northeastern region of North America. Despite his great size, Paul was raised with love and kindness by his new adoptive family, growing to love mankind despite living in the very outskirts of their civilization. It was on a lark that young Paul took up an axe for the first time, casually felling tree after tree to ensure that his small town had enough wood to continue to prosper and thrive throughout the coming winter. Amazed at the progress which he made, his adopted parents and friends encouraged him to take to the profession full time. Already longing for wide open spaces and peace from the gradually expanding town, Paul took the advice to heart and headed west, drifting from camp to camp clearing entire forests to assist in the expansion and cultivation of the young nation to be. It would be roughly a year before Paul met his closest friend. Once again the storms of winter fell across the continent and in one of his many excursions into the great unknown to enjoy himself in solitude, Paul stumbled across a massive blue ox. Though it was timid at first, unfamiliar with another creature its size, the beast soon took a liking to Paul and within mere days the two were an inseparable duo. With the ox at his side, dubbed Babe by the giant lumberjack, Paul's efforts to help cultivate the continent increased tenfold, clearing vast expanses of farmland and shifting the geography of the continent itself by creating the Great Lakes, the Grand Canyon and countless other geographical marvels, oftentimes purely by accident while roughhousing with Babe. While there are numerous smaller tales of how Paul and Babe lived their lives, surrounded by a colorful cast of characters who would go on to leave their own marks in the corners of American folk lore, no one is entirely sure exactly how Paul died. In an ironic twist of fate, in following the profession he loved, Paul slowly but surely chopped away the only spaces left for him and his kind within the great North American wilderness. With the civilization of mankind hot on his heels and nowhere left to truly enjoy his solitary relationship with nature, Paul Bunyan, last of the giants, simply faded into obscurity, never to be seen again.
