[PTab=Profile] Character Details Height / Weight :5'2”/108lbs Source : Golden Legend, Christian scripture. Home Region : Israel, France Alignment : Lawful Good Gender : Female Finding Jesus Martha was born in the village of Bethany, along with her younger sister and brother, Mary and Lazarus. She took her responsibility as the eldest fairly quickly as their parents died, taking over cooking, cleaning, and other housework from her mother. Living life at that level of responsibility was tough for her, and she quickly developed a coarse personality, haggling with shopkeepers and walking the streets. Still, they were happy, Lazarus was a devoted and hardworking brother who brought in enough money to keep them, while Mary was a child that, while a natural-born troublemaker, was very good at bringing a smile to everyone’s faces. Their life would change if Lazarus got married, of course, but for the moment, they were comfortable. That changed on the day that Yeshua of Nazareth, later known as Jesus came to their house. Friends with Lazarus, she invited him and his disciples into the house, busying herself with the cooking and cleaning that entertaining would offer. However, the surprise guestload caught her by surprise, and she found herself overwhelmed. Snapping at Mary for not helping, she found herself chided by Yeshua, saying that she had been spending her time listening to him, and that she should take a break and do the same. Somewhat frustrated, she did, but quickly was turned around and became a fervent believer. “This man is certainly the Son of God” she knew, simply from the simple words he spoke by her hearth. Miracle This belief was further founded when, one fateful day, her brother Lazarus took deeply ill. While she did all she could, calling for Yeshua, who was known to cure even those who had been infected by leprosy, he ended up dying. He had arrived moments too late...but in a profound miracle, Yeshua rose Lazarus from the dead. Faced with such a clear and present impossible miracle, she became one of Jesus’ most fervent disciples, standing by his side through his own death and resurrection. It was from that moment that she became a holy woman, though she was unable to fully extinguish the villager she had came from, popping up from time to time to her chagrin. The Tarrasque Around this time, in Roman Gaul, a fearsome beast stalked the Rhine River. A monstrous dragon chimaera, with the head of a lion, the shell of a turtle, the tail of a scorpion, and the legs of a bear slept inside the roaring river’s water. It had once been a benevolent creature, known and given space by the tribes, as while it will not attack, but gets excited and rushes over, likely causing unintentional harm. However, when the land was occupied by the roman invaders, such incursions became increasingly unavoidable, and often led to retaliation. From excitable, such counterattacks quickly made him fearful, then distrustful, then hostile to humanity. It was truly a beast they made of their own accord, a creature without malice that grew malice from human action. It reached a point where he would purposefully attack and devour anything that strayed upon the Rhine River. In his mind, humans were not something he could coexist with, and therefore would kill any he could find. Taming the Beast Martha, charged with service as an Apostle, had traveled to Gaul to spread Yeshua’s word to the people there. When she arrived in what would become Tarascon, she saw a military establishment gathering troops to slay the fearsome dragon. Coming back bloodied despite having the best of what Roman artillery and soldiers could offer, Martha goes to face the dragon alone. Rising from the river to attack her, Martha calms it with soothing hymns and prayer. Rather than viewing the beast as an enemy and making one where none existed, she treated it as something that can be coexisted with and befriended. Charmed by the woman who didn’t fear and hate it despite being in mortal peril, the Tarrasque came to trust Martha implicitly, following behind her and becoming a faithful companion. Bringing the Tarrasque back with her to show the people, they reacted in fear. Attacking it, striking to kill, they attempted to slay the now-harmless dragon. Charmed and filled with God’s light, the dragon did not take any aggressive action, even to defend itself, and was slain against Martha’s protest and struggles to stop, she couldn’t overcome the vast numbers by herself. When the deed was done, she went into a furious rage. How dare they slay the Tarrasque, reformed as he was? Who did not raise a talon to strike at the people who reacted with such pathetic fear? The next morning, none were spared Martha’s wrath. Everyone had bruises and welts from the holy woman’s staff, and they all expressed utmost remorse for slaying the harmless creature. In it’s honor and in penitence, they named their city by the Rhine Torascon in it’s honor. Similarly, they adopted Martha’s teaching and became Christian, her preaching holding the same firey passion and charm as her punishment had. |
