Phantasmal beasts were no joke, they can take various shapes and forms and the fiercest of them can even trump servants in terms of raw power. Some could be easily taken out by the servants of CHALDEA, while others could squash a heroic spirit with their might. Ideally, it would’ve been smart to have just waited until at least one servant was available, but this was a situation that required immediate attention, unless everyone wanted a Chimera randomly gobbling up unsuspecting staff left and right. Therefore it seemed responsibility fell on three masters to capture this beast, alive if possible for potential research.
Heading this party would be Rin Tohsaka, a veteran mage of the Fifth Fuyuki Grail War and a prodigy in her own right, and also an extremely proficient user in transferal of power and gem magic. An exceptional mage in her own right, but one far too arrogant for her own good at times. Accompanying her would be the executioner Ciel and the young magus Misha. Perhaps they would get out of this pickle alive after all, or so Rin hoped.
“Mischen mit Flamme!”
Rin chanted as a handful of rubies within her palm lit up with a bright light before dimming down again with their respective enchantments. Focusing on one element did help with the enchanting process after all since it made things go by quicker and Rin could still enchant at least ten gems before this mission’s start. However, due to her formal wear, they couldn’t be utilized to their max effect and would surely do more harm than help if they were used incorrectly. Hopefully, Rin would be able to get enough quartz to upgrade her outfit soon so she could use her full abilities once again, then perhaps she could be more useful to her servants as well as make quite the impression upon the other masters of CHALDEA.
Though, these thoughts were cleared as Rin got to the hanger door where the rest of her group awaited, giving both Ciel and Misha a light nod as she arrived late to the mission start. Rin tightened up her black leather gloves before turning around and giving them a briefing.
“I’m sure you two have heard of the Phantasmal Beasts before correct?” Rin kept her serious tone, the type she always had within high school when talking to other students. “You both better have because today it seems we seek to capture one, a particularly dangerous Chimera. Thankfully with Ciel’s strength and Misha along with my own’s mastery of mage craft, we should be able to capture it with no casualties…” Even Rin didn’t believe that fully, but of course she wasn’t about to let it show. “Just follow my lead and you both should do fine, if not then we put CHALDEA at risk,” Rin finished up before shooting a rather motherly smile at the young Misha and then turning to face the door.
Inputting the code, the door slowly came open and revealed the barren icy wasteland that awaited the unfortunate trio. Rin gave one final sigh before stepping out onto the cold ice sheet.
“I hope I’m right….”

Well, it was time for Ciel first mission in Chaldea. She would be taking orders from a magus known has Rin Toshaka who had survived a grail war. This would be an odd thing as the Church often saw people who practice magecraft as enemies. In addition, Ciel was a member of the Burial agency which meant working alone. She had always fought by herself, this made things easier. As she knew her own strengths and her limits. Having allies here would complicate things, they were liabilities in a way. Still Rin had proven herself in the past so perhaps the Executor could have a bit more faith in her allies.
She then watched as the group leader arrived, Rin Toshaka and gave a light nod to her. Ciel began to listen to what the magus had to say and nodded her head indicating yes when asked if she had heard of Phantasmal Beasts. Yet a bit to her surprise the magus didn't offer any sort of tactics or strategy. “Miss Toshaka, perhaps we should talk about tactics and how we plan to go about this. We don't know the full capabilities of this creature, perhaps we should do some recon first to gather some intelligence on it.” stated Ciel in a polite tone. Rin was the group leader and for the sake of the group it was probably best if the Burial agent didn't question her to often.
“Also, the two of you may not be aware but I have fought several phantasmal beasts in the past. I may be able to offer some advice.” stated Ciel as she then stop talking and would give the others a chance to respond. Regardless of what they say, Ciel would still follow Rin outside and towards their objective.

“Diwai-Kaikaim…Diwai-Kaikaim…? What is the properties of Diwai-Kaikaim…?"
Ever the studious sort, Miska would much more prefer that she had been given some time first to gather more data and prepared herself for this Chimera. She was sure she had read it in one of the twelve volumes of the “Beasts of Earth and Beyond” somewhere…. But with no one else available to tackle this mission, Miska was only able to take a good bath and changed her sea-smelling clothes before she was off. Even her suitcase had not been unpacked yet. Usual undergarments, long-sleeved training clothes, comfy running trousers, woolen hat, snow googles, and snow boots, all covered in her ever trusty thick cloak was all the get-up Miska could get now. Utility than style, as usual. She checked that her sword was fastened properly to her back before locking her room.
Along the way, he managed to pay a short visit to the Library and hurriedly checked the pocket version of “Beasts of Earth and Beyond.” He found a page on Diwai-Kaikaim and, in another shelf, a map of the terrain around Chaldea. After annoying the librarian by insisting that he photocopied the pages right away, Miska ran off with a copy of each of the pages to the Hangar Gate, where the Party Leader would give a short briefing. Along the way, he skimmed the paper about Diwai Kaikaim for info, almost slipping down the stairs twice because of it. But he got the basics…at least. He pocketed the paper while quickening his steps, intending to read more if he ever got the chance.
And her Team Leader today would be none other than the famous Rin Tohsaka! Miska had heard rumors of her arrival for sometime, but she had been to busy visiting the infirmary and helping things in the Research Division to actually searched her out. But, Rin Tohsaka! Miska herself knew how hard it was to get admitted to Clock Tower, so she knew Miss Tohsaka was something else. She absolutely loved her book about jewels and their properties –and oh! They said she was also a survivor of one of The Grail Wars! Being smart, noble, masterful in writing, an Average One too –and above all, an independent Magus who was not afraid to stand on her own feet; Rin Tohsaka was somewhat of a role-model for the Kopparsvard Lordling.
And now he would see Miss Tohsaka in action first-hand! Right in action! Furthermore, since they did not have to undergo Ray-Shifts they were not hindered by their restrictive Formal Wear in this mission. He could watch the famous Magus unleashes her best! Ohh Miska got a shiver of excitement just by thinking how much he could learn from her.

As it turned out, the young Magus was the first to arrive at the appointed place. She looked around, certain she was alone, and was about to read the photocopied page once more when the other Team Member came in. A blue-haired lady Master- oh and Christian by the cross she wore. Wonderful! God will bless them! Miska herself was a devout christian, one of the few in Chaldea who observed Prayers regularly along with such illustrious persona such as Godfreya of Jerusalem and Saint Martha. She tried to give a smile to the Blue-haired Master but it seemed she had not noticed her. Because then, the Tohsaka Magus appeared. Miska almost did not hear the first words Miss Tohsaka was saying. So stunned he was at the reality of seeing Rin Tohsaka in person that he even missed the misspelling of his name. He was too busy thinking- 'Oh, right to the point! I think that is how a First-Class Magus works? By saying everything concisely? And those gems in her sure are- D-did she just mentioned my name?!'In the end, Miska gave hardly any constructive feedback. She just stood there, in awe, mechanically following the other two far more experienced women out once they decided to go out. She noticed Miss Tohsaka motherly smiled at her (‘OhmygodOhmygodOhmygodwishIhadtakenmorecareofmyhair’) but was too shy to smile back. She did try to smile back, however. But her nervousness made her face stiff and in the end she was just unable to move even a muscle of her face. Next time…Next time… The snow outside was blinding in this bright afternoon. As soon as they stepped out of Chaldea, Miska put his hat and snow googles at the ready. The other two women soon got into discussion and Miska immediately felt out of place. They all seemed so experienced, so knowledgeable; far above his own league. M-maybe they were even as good as Father, which meant Miska had no right to say anything. So, suddenly fully self-conscious about her own incompetence, Miska walked a little bit behind them, trying her best to just not be a hindrance to them. With conviction that no one was going to talk to her anyway, she unfolded the piece of paper about the Diwai-Kaikaim and began reading it in silence while following the other two. It…seemed that this beast was used to be in tropical climate, so in the freezing wastes of Siberia it should either be very weak or very angry. And trees are they natural habitat! So the best place to start searching them was to find a place with lots of wood... Well, there was not much wood in these land. But the few places there were were easily identifiable on the copy of the map he had brought. But he was content of just following the other two experienced Magus ahead. They surely knew what they were doing! There would be no words from Miska as she walked behind the others in silence, her face looking down studiously reading the photocopied page.

Rin’s dark hair blew gently in the frisk air that blew off the mountains surrounding the isolated headquarters of CHALDEA. It had been a mostly clear day so far and the conditions were above optimal for completing the mission without a hitch. For the first time since she had arrived at CHALDEA, Rin had full confidence she could finally prove to be of use and with the outstanding team she had, this mission would carry on error free. Or so she thought…
Almost immediately after she had finished her briefing, the church executor began to retort back on her explanation and insisted that they perform recon first. Though Rin could definitely appreciate the light tone, she could not see splitting up ending in anything other than the death of one or more of her party. “While that would be a rather clever tactic if we had servants, splitting up would likely endanger all of us as well as the mission. The only one of us who stands a chance surviving the beast in an upfront match is you Ciel, and if you leave Miska and I alone,” Rin shook her head feeling as if she already got her point across rather clearly. It didn’t help that most magi got along horribly with members of the church, but Rin’s ego also stood in the way of Ciel taking any sort of charge during this mission.
“Though I have considered the plan of reconnaissance, just not by one of us,” Rin gave a jesting smile as she reached into her pocket for a random item. When her hand came back out once again, she tossed the gem up and it instantly took the form of a small owl and began to fly ahead, “won’t be as effective, but it’s a much safer solution wouldn’t you agree Elesia?” Rin mocked in an almost competitive tone, despite knowing her sensitivity to the nickname. Her cold demeanor once again returned to her face as she began to follow close after the familiar, feet trudging firmly through the rather light sheet of snow. “We stick at each other’s backs no matter what happens, if we encounter the beast then you will act as our vanguard whilst Miska and I head off the back lines. Though whatever information you can provide on the beast would be…appreciated.” Rin finished as she kept a steady pace, being sure to quietly count the number of paces she took from the entrance so they wouldn’t get lost.
Rin was slight perturbed however by the lack of words the young redhead had to say; from the very few interactions the two had so far, it was evident that the young master obviously adored Rin and she was now torn between thinking the girl was either deep in thought or just too shy to talk. Stopping in her tracks, Rin bent down to the girl’s level before offering her a small flame filled gem in her gloved palm, “here, its cold out. This should keep you warm if you want it.”

It seemed that Magus were still arrogant in Chaldea, even veterans of the grail war. Not only was this girl now putting words in Ciel's mouth but she was also going out of her way to make her feel uncomfortable. “Miss Toshaka, let us not get off on the wrong foot. First do not put words in mouth, I did say recon but I never said splitting up. Second if you know my birth name, then you know that it is a great way to bring back unpleasant memories for me and make me feel uncomfortable. You wouldn't want me to bring back some unpleasant memories for you or try to make you uncomfortable? Let us act professionally. I do agree with using a familiar to scout and the idea with me going to the front while you Miska are on the back lines.” stated Ciel as she spoke in a happy tone and gave a smile but underneath it was frustration and anger. Yet they were on a mission and she would try not make to big a deal about all of this.
The Burial Agent would then exhale before putting her hands on her hips, taking a moment to think about what useful information she could give to the magus about Chimeras. “Well, I have never fought a Chimera before but I have heard they are made up of several magical beasts. Meaning we can expect a large number of abilities. Poison, strength, and speed are some common abilities from what I read. Chimeras abilities change from Chimera to Chimera. In short, we should probably be prepared for anything. Speaking of the beast, do we have a plan on knocking it out or capturing it. If I hit the shadow with my black key, that will pin it for a while but I would not consider it captured. Rin, would you happen to have a way to capture it?” stated Ciel hoping this would take Rin focus off her and instead bring back their focus to the mission. Hopefully, this mission would end in success instead of the everyone trying to kill one another. In the meantime, the Inquisitor would follow Rin, letting her take the lead.

‘They…they are scary….’
The poor Master retreated even more to the background as his two seniors started their “polite” argument. A logical offer of reconaissance from the Church Member was rebuffed by Miss Tohsaka’s more useful method. And then she called her Elesia… Even the naïve Miska knew the name was not meant to be a prais, and this was confirmed by the hidden daggers palpable behind Ciel’s retort. Oh, it was so scary. Shouting resentment aloud was scary. But coldly veiling it behind calmed words was even more so. Grandfather used to say…umm…He said… Uh…What did he say?
Nevertheless, the act of summoning an owl familiar drew the Lordling for a while from her photocopied pages. Miss Tohsaka’s style was so graceful… so elegant… Miska herself was never good enough to actually form a contract with a familiar, so she envied it a bit.Although her Sorcery Trait had begun to kick in and analyzed the short summoning sequence by sight only, immediately pinpointing several things that could be improved from Rin’s technique.
Because, that was all what Miska and his family was good at. The Third Family, adept at improving something that had already existed. And only, if it had already existed. Of the Three Families of Archimedes the First Family was blessed with “Discover”: Clock Tower was choke-full of these detached savants. The Second Family could “Assemble”, which meant their presence, too, was highly valued in Magic Society. But the Third Family specialized in what any people could do. “Improve”. No new knowledge. No groundbreaking invention. Just... improving what had already there. Through their single-minded specialty they excluded themselves from the glorious names that made possible the breakthrough of humanity.
And one of the results? The shy worthless Master named Miska, unsurely following the other two much younger bloodline but who had much more usefulness to the world. Sometimes…he wondered how good it would be to be known as the first who had done something… Just like Miss Tohsaka with her groundbreaking Jewel theory.

But the voice of the blue-haired Master startled Miska from her thoughts.
“Well, I have never fought a Chimera before but I have heard they are made up of several magical beasts. Meaning we can expect a large number of abilities. Poison, strength, and speed are some common abilities from what I read.”
‘It is true for most Chimera,’ Miska thought, somehow remembering the first pages of the Chimera Chapter on “Beasts of Earth and Beyond” she had read years ago, ‘But I think it was stated that most of Chimeras cannot employ their individual potential to the fullest… Meaning-‘
"Chimeras abilities change from Chimera to Chimera. In short, we should probably be prepared for anything. “
Once again Miska looked over the paper from the Pocket edition she had carried. “Diwai-Kaikaim. Scavenger type, with territorial outbursts. When in foreign environments and nervous it can prove aggressive. But generally doesn’t attack unless provoked. Not predatory beings. Prefer to hide first rather than strike-“ 'Um...I think most of the info on this Beast's abilities is already available...'
But suddenly, a red gem was offered in front of her eyes. Miska stopped in her tracks. Bewildered.
“Here, its cold out.” Said Miss Tohsaka with an (imagined) smile, “ This should keep you warm if you want it.”
“…”
But Miska had become warm even before touching the gem. Already, he could feel his cheek hotter as a faint blush crept towards his face. ‘Th-this couldn’t be-‘ his thoughts screamed in panic, ‘why would- No! Smile! Smile and accept it like a polite person should- I hope Miss Tohsaka didn’t- nuwanuwanuwa this is- what to say- Find good words! Good and smart words! Think! Think!’'
One could almost see her eyes fled in panic as the Master’s mind groped for something to return the gesture with. In the end, she averted her face rather rudely while mumbling thanks as she took the gem. She refused to lift her face until Miss Tohsaka had stood up and resumed walking, no doubt to answer Ciel’s question on how to catch the beast.
Only then did Miska admired the jewel held in his hand.
The Jewel created by the Master herself… Miska could see (or was he biased?) that Miss Tohsaka was indeed a Master in her craft. The lines she used…The exact space between the layers… It made Miska wonder whether he could improve on an already perfect system.
Deciding that it was worth trying while following the other two around, Miska secretly used his spell.
"Πιο αποτελεσματική"

… … No… It was not perfect. There was still some thing…many things in fact that could be done… If, say, the stored prana inside Rin’s gem could exude a certain amount of heat for a constant 6 hours, then Miska would be able to improve its energy transfer process to exponentially increase its heat output while maintaining its life time. That’s all she could do. Increase the effectiveness of something… Well, with a gem already this warm Miska was confident that she could create something hotter than even a direct fire… 'Fire…hot…tropical?'Suddenly an idea struck Miska. If-If the Beast lived in Tropical area, then it would surely try to seek a heat source in this frozen tundra, right? It was not like it could –like humans- change its outfit to suit the temperature. So it must feel inclination to seek heat- to follow something that makes it warm. If they could provide a heat source big enough to make the Beast notice, they might be able to lead it towards Chaldea- without really capturing it- Just lead all the way to where it was supposed to be delivered. That’s it! A good idea! “Umm…”But delivering the idea was another matter entirely. Shy Miska did not dare to interrupt even a sentence of the two people. Instead, she quietly followed them as they resumed their talk while thinking how best to present her idea without embarrassing herself… *FLASH*“Uwwaaah!!!”Too consumed by his thoughts, for a moment Miska forgo t that he was still channeling his spell. A miscalculation on his part caused a sudden influx of his prana, and as a result the small gem unleashed such great amount of heat that both Rin and Ciel might thought an explosion had occurred. Immediately, Miska released the gem before it could burn his gloves -Thank God. The gem dropped on the snow, rising up steam with hissing sound as it instantly melted the snow and sunk several inches deep due to the insane amount of heat it exuded. Even the snow in a few meters around the gem was not exempt. Some of their surface melted. And close to it Miska felt the urge to sink her face to the snow also. It was hard to tell which was redder. The gem or the ashamed Magus’ face. "I-I am so sorry- I was just...It...suddenly -not so suddenly- Trying...Umm..."Perhaps...something else was also drawn to the heat? I am so sorry it is too long

Ciel would suddenly turn around as she thought there had been an explosion. She would see the third member of the party, someone who she had sort of forgotten about while conversing with the group leader. Deciding to drop the conversation she was having with Rin, she would now focus her attention to Miska. “Are you alright, what happened?” ask Ciel in a concerned voice as she then spotted the gem that Rin had given to her now in the snow, melting it and giving off a large amount of heat. Well if something was to go wrong, now was the perfect time while they were still close to the base and could easily regroup there. Still what had gone wrong, the gem that Rin had given to Miska was something she was an expert in, there was no way she could have screwed up such a simple spell, so the question then came up, what went wrong? *** ((Sorry for the short post))
