NAME: Gráinne Ní Conghaile
[PTabbedContent][PTab=APPEARANCE]
A young woman who looks anything from twenty to twenty nine, Gráinne stands at about 5’8’, quite tall, and weighs 130 lbs—she has a somewhat healthy lifestyle after all. She's not exactly the curve bot 5000 but when has that ever been important right? However said figure is not often flaunted and Gráinne often wears modest or practical, but never sloppy, clothing unless the occasion calls for something that will impress. And if she needs to impress; Miss Ni Conghaile will do her best to do so, as the opinions of others do matter to her. A native of Ireland, she has naturally fair skin and does not do well in sunny environments, as she’s more likely to burn, even with factor 50 sunblock. As such, spending time indoors is sometimes quite necessary for her. Her light brown hair is rather long, reaching past her shoulder blades and is rather wavy with a lot of volume, when she was younger it was slightly more uncontrollable and frizzy but she's done her best to keep it under control. In her opinion, it's best in a ponytail and in a recent attempt to soften her image, she's stopped dressing to impress. It is said she resembles her grandmother; a respected magus at the association to a high degree. Her eyes are a grey colour and are considered piercing by those around her; adding to the cool, calculating aura she seems to give off. When she relaxes or smiles however, the calculating aura disappears entirely and she appears to be a cheerful young woman. Her facial expressions are vivid and if she is relaxed, one can tell what she’s thinking just by looking at her. In a more formal environment however, such facial expressions are toned down dramatically. Her mannerisms are said to be rather lady like and delicate, even when she’s being forceful. Her Magic Crest is located on the upper left side of her face, including her left eye.

[PTab=PERSONALITY]
A woman of many layers whose personality is seemingly a by-product of having to grow up rather quickly, the head of the Conghaile family has gone from a rather naïve young girl with her head in her books and an attachment to myths, legends and stories to a cynical and self-conscious young woman to a more lax, half whimsical half overly analytical adult. Gráinne, known to some as Grace, is capable of responding quickly to any threats that people give out and to the mistakes that people made. Often one will find her on the defensive and she is not one to attack someone immediately verbally, every hurtful thing or word said is reactionary. Often those who make what she considers ‘inappropriate’ comments about her family are the targets of such comments, she is not one to grin and bear things or hold a grudge, to tell a person off immediately is, in her opinion, much better. While it is a trait she emulated from her father it is something that puts her at odds with the more two faced nature of a stereotypical magi. She is not hot headed by any stretch of the imagination, and in fact her confrontations are considered icy at worst and strangely cordial at best. The moment she seems at ease with someone though, she tends to simply relax, and it’s gradually gotten easier for her to relax now that she’s settled in as family head. Perhaps a little bit too easy.
A strong believer in the idea of fate, she thinks things happen for a reason and doesn’t see why people try to fight their fate. Yet she is a hypocrite who would gladly try to defy fate if it was for her own selfish needs and the needs of her family. The idea of fate is, in the first place is perhaps her way to deal with her lack of empathy towards people, while she feels sympathy, to be empathetic is draining, hard and something that she purposefully makes sure that she doesn’t do. The very idea of it is unpleasant to her; highlighting a somewhat self-centred nature even as she attempts to put her family first. Because that’s what she thinks a proper head of the family does. In fact a majority of her apparent nature is due to this idea she has of a head of a magus family.
Inside though; she’s a geek, the sort of person who expands upon knowledge for the fun of it and if given the right topic by the right person she could chatter on for hours about it, her opinions surrounding it and whatever. Such topics range from certain aspects of magical theory to Celtic mythology (do not get her started on Emer) and she genuinely won’t shut up about them, it’s a change from her smart ass attitude that she shows during her icy confrontations with people as it’s a rather genuine explanation of knowledge and there’s something warm about it. Her eyes tend to brighten up and there’s a sort of enthusiasm in her voice when she geeks out. To some, it’s sweet and to others it’s annoying; not that many people actually see it. Her love of stories are tied to her origin of ‘fulfilment’, which relates to her obsession with stories—their endings in particular and her style of magecraft which is rather visual. She seeks acknowledgement, because she can’t get it from her father and because she is considered inexperienced she cannot give herself any sort of validation either.
Despite all this, at her core she is a woman who wants to live a life fulfilled, to be the protagonist in a way that means her actions will always lead to a fulfilling ending. She hates the way that life is not like her stories. That her fate is tied to the Magus Association and the thoughts of others. The life of a magus is not the life of the beautiful witches and magical wizards in her stories, especially with the two faced nature of many magi today. While it is something she has come to accept it is also something that she cannot help but loathe entirely. Her wish is to look at her life, her journeys and to die happily. Totally fulfilled and satisfied. Which is probably why Chaldea was an option in the first place.

[PTab=HISTORY]
The seventh generation head of the Conghaile family, an Irish family that has always resided in Dundalk in County Louth, Ireland. The family can claim descent from much older but (mostly) deceased families and druids but did not emerge as a family in their own right until a few hundred years ago. The Conghaile family has had a decent standing in the Magus Association although that has everything to do with Saoirse Ni Conghaile, Grainne’s grandmother, a talented and affluent woman who quite happily gave up being head at the age of 65. Historically there has always been an alertness of a certain family that has a longer history, however the fact that the Fraga family has kept to itself throughout history has given every family head a will to prove themselves, and nowhere has this will manifested itself more strongly than in the fifth generation head Saoirse, Grainne’s grandmother who elevated the family’s standard through her prodigious knowledge. While the sixth and seventh generation heads have not had a similar amount of prodigy it has done apparently little to decrease the family’s standing.It is said Grainne greatly resembles Saoirse and her vast knowledge has caused some to make comparisons between the two. Despite their apparent distaste of the family that has been around since the Age of the Gods, it is, somewhat ironically, incredibly likely that they’re descended from them up the line somewhere.
Grainne is the first and only child of Niall, the sixth generation head, and possibly the only one in the history of her family who unexpectedly became head. Her mother died when she was a child due to a complication in giving birth to her baby brother, who also died. Encountering death at such an early age was odd and as she grew up, she found herself fascinated with the idea of endings in particular, what made a good ending. Despite this, for the most part, she had a childhood free of worries, despite her position as heir. Because of her place of birth, Dundalk, which is known as the birth place of Cu Chulainn (The town’s crest literally says Mé do rug Cú Chulainn Crógashe; I gave birth to brave Cu Chulainn–so she couldn’t really escape it) she became a lover of stories, mythology and legends—she was born in the place that gave birth to Ireland’s most legendary hero; how could she not immediately fall in love with such tales? She learned because she wanted to do so and not out of any duty and so any sense of duty she had wasn’t particularly deeply ingrained. Even gaining the family’s Magic Crest; which caused her a deal of pain to activate at first didn’t faze her as much as it should have. It hurt, yes, but it gave her knowledge, it was her fate to go through such and if she didn’t activate it, it wouldn’t hurt right? And if she did, then she’d get used to it.
Nothing really fazed her, and as such the fact that she would one day become head of the family didn’t really hit her until she was forced to be one. She began her training at an early age, like most magi did however her studies didn’t stop with what her father taught her and she sought to further her own learning. Perhaps what kept her so passionate was the fact that she was learning the secrets of druids such as the ones in the stories she loved so much. Whatever the reason she lapped up what she was told, and for a while simply expanding upon her knowledge was all she concentrated on. Because of this habit of hers her father did not wish to talk to her about the duties of a head and teach her about his experiences until she got older. A mistake on his part; unlike his predecessors he was lenient with her and let her do what she wanted for the most part.
He taught her, she learned and outside of their lessons he was content to let her do what she wanted in her free time. And so she studied even more, read the stories she wanted to read and more. And her father, tough as he was during their lessons, made sure that she enriched her life with the activities she wanted. Niall was content to let her keep her head in the clouds and her childlike naivety just a little bit longer. And so outside of her training sessions, she continued to be somewhat childish, selfish and a believer in fate. It had an effect on her ability to be sympathetic and care about others though; even as a young adult she found herself unable to connect to anyone who wasn’t a character, she could sob over Aengus and Enya but if she saw a homeless man on the streets she couldn’t quite draw a similar connection. When she was fifteen her father began to talk to her about the basics of what he thought a head of the family should be, although her magical training seemed to be of more importance to him, to have an heir with talent he could be proud of rather than a politically savvy young girl was his focus.
So naturally; upon her father’s death at sixteen, the girl was devastated. Not only did her only living parent meet his end, he met it in what she could only consider the worst way possible, with any wish he had unfulfilled. Her grandmother, adamant that she had retired her position the moment she gave the Magic Crest to her son, refused to help her granddaughter outright, only giving Finding herself having to grow up quickly to become the head of the family, she panicked and more or less threw away all of her naïve mannerisms. Grainne had gone with her father to the Association on occasion, but this would be the first time she had gone on her own. To be able to handle herself in the political and two faced world of magi put a strain on her; learning was not for fun any more, although it didn’t stop her from enjoying it and if anything she found solace in it as it was something she could always fall back on. She became colder, unable to make a two faced mask like so many others and gained a reputation for being intelligent but anti-social, especially during classes. Allies were never made and only maintained; and while she tried to connect with people they seemed so bland and frivolous in comparison to the heroes and gods in her stories.
As she slowly grew into her position her icy demeanour slowly melted and she became somewhat well known for her eccentricities than her savviness. Not that she ever particularly cared about what people thought of her in the first place. So, win-win situation really wasn't it? She approached Chaldea as a way to stop her boredom from getting too great, the general 'monotony' of magus life proving far too much for her to handle. Also, what better way to live a fulfilled life than trying to stop the end of the world, right?

Thaumaturgical Knowledge of Druidic Magecraft (Visual)
The sight based magecraft of the Conghaile family. Her knowledge of the craft is vast, considering how much time she spent in the library at home; it is not concerned with the creation of illusions as much as it is to do with perception. This can range from messing with perception to making the world accept changes that have been pictured by the user; the latter however is useless if one sees the spell being cast. Due to her aptitude for learning as a child, enthusiasm and her rather vivid imagination which makes seeing things easy, she’s talented in her craft. A part of her magecraft is that she cannot see it manifest, only being able to view the after effects, a connection to the idea of asking nature for what is wanted and the strong belief that the earth will provide, there are limitations depending on the user, for example she can fix a broken glass or heal a wound by restoring them to how she imagined them when they weren’t broken or injured as that fits with the flow of energy, but to summon something like fire, which is outside of her elemental affinity means more prana is used. It allows the user to create the effects of spells not normally in their arsenal here are somewhat severe limitations to what can actually be done, but Grainne’s knowledgeable of them all. The family also teaches Reinforcement of the eyes, giving greater efficiency to sight, because Reinforcement is a bother to learn, it is one of the spells stored inside the Crest.

Put which spells your Formal Wear is letting you use, here
Name:Reinforcement
Spell Rank:D
Effects:It just makes things better okay? Usually utilized on the eyes, she's capable of using it on her body in general, but due to the nature of her family's magecraft, it's usually the eyes. Gotta be careful with that because she's like 99% sure that's how Great granddady Patrick went blind.
Name:Leigheas
Spell Rank:C
Effects: With a name that literally means 'heal' in Gaelic, the concept is more similar to 'restoring things to the way they once were' than actually fixing the wound, so she has to know what it looked like before being damaged to actually fix it. Has a slight problem called 'if she kind of forgets what you looked like without that bigass cut on your arm, it won't work or might make things worse' but generally it means that she can restore something to its original state. Let's be honest it's much more effective against broken glass than actual wounds, but hey, it's better than nothing. Can only be focused on one target at a time.
