Personal Skills Skill 01 | Battle Continuation: EX | A form of Battle Continuation unique to Tadakatsu, the legend (and historical fact) of his hundreds of battles fought without receiving a single scratch crystallized into a Skill, also influencing his LCK and END stats.
To put it bluntly, Lancer is unable to be damaged by any attack that isn't surely and quickly lethal. To be more precise, any attack that doesn't destroy his heart or brain or his whole body in one go will be somehow dodged, blocked or otherwise will not hit, although he can still be pushed around or knocked down on occasion although no wound or bruise is caused. In short, it is impossible for Honda Tadakatsu to be dying, but it is not impossible for him to be dead. |
Skill 02 | Eye of the Mind (False): A | Eye of the Mind (False) is a natural talent to avoid danger on the basis of an innate 6th sense, intuition, or prescience, where accuracy of instinct has been augmented by experience -- somewhat overcoming the problem of visual obstructions that appear in the course of combat. The difference between Eye of the Mind (True) and Eye of the Mind (False) lies in that the former is an ability that humans can obtain through accumulation of experience. The 'False' version is superficially similar, but in fact represents a natural instinct that cannot be obtained regardless of effort or experience -- even though experience can refine its accuracy. The ability grants an effect of offering resistance against penalties caused by visual obstructions. |
Skill 03 | Military Tactics: C+ | Tadakatsu is known for his ingenious leadership during battles, yet was seldom a main strategist. Rather, the man was known for finding the right way to act in the midst of the chaos of war, rallying men to his side and overcoming situations deemed otherwise hopeless.
A commander that can only truly shine once the battle has already started, Tadakatsu's quick thinking during times of great peril and his legendary adaptability are often credited with the victory of many of Tokugawa's engagements, and take form in this Skill. |
Skill 04 | Bravery: A+ | While the courage of any who enter the field of war is hard to be doubted, this Skill is granted due to his finest hour, when during the Komaki campaign, Honda was left behind while Ieyasu departed to face Toyotomi troops at Nagakute. Spotting a gigantic host led by Toyotomi Hideyoshi himself, Tadakatsu rode out with a handful of men and challenged them on the opposite bank of the Shonai River, even when Hideyoshi outnumbered him 50 or 60 to one. Impressed with his courage in doing such an act to bide time for Tokugawa, Toyotomi ordered no harm to come to either Tadakatsu or his men. |
Skill 05 | Charisma: C | None of the feats that granted Honda the two Skills described above would have been possible alone. Both his reputation as an unbeatable warrior and his choice of colorful clothing such as the Buddhist prayer beads over his armor and his famed antler-adorned helmet, Tadakatsu's reign over men in the thick of war was absolute.
While it could not be said he is as charismatic as a king or an emperor is, Honda carries instead the charm of a warrior, boiling men's hearts during combat and aiding them in the belief that victory is always within reach. |
Class Skills Skill 01 | Magic Resistance: D | Cancels Single-Action spells. Magic Resistance of the same degree of an amulet that rejects magical energy. |
Noble Phantasm | Dragonfly Cutter: Eternal Lover of the Whetstone (蜻蛉切 : 磨石の永遠恋人, Tonbogiri : Suriishi no Eien Koibito) | Rank: B | Type: Anti-Matter | The renowned spear wielded by Honda Tadakatsu, having earned its name from a legend that described how it cut in two perfect halves a dragonfly that landed on its blade.
A spear whose edge will never dull and whose sharpness refuses to yield to any matter, Tonbogiri can simply cleave through any object in this world like butter, ignoring any attributes such as hardness, composition or even magical defense.
So sharp is the blade that it can cut the very air itself, allowing Honda to release a wave similar to Prana Burst upon a slash that will prolong the unstoppable cut to a small range of a couple meters or so.
Its legendary capability was gained not through a magus' enchantment, but with a combination of legendary blacksmithing, an impeccable technique that took years to perfect and the beyond obsessive dedication Tadakatsu had towards honing its edge. Day after day, month after month, year after year, the samurai spent countless hours of his life improving the sharpness of the edge with a whetstone until both his skill in doing so and the blade itself transcended the limits of normal man, and thus entered into the mystical, that which transcends even magic as we know it.
This humble origin, however, comes with its limitations. Any Noble Phantasm that manifests itself as a tool of war - be it a weapon, a suit of armor or a shield - is unable to be pierced by Tonbogiri, and will let out an audible ring should they clash. Armaments that have transcended the material, the nearly curse-like effect the spear has upon all matter fails to affect it, since they have become more than mere objects and are rather materializations of the very will of their wielders.
Noble Phantasms which manifest themselves as landscapes, organic forms, mounts or are intricate to the self (Such as EMIYA's Unlimited Blade Works, the soldiers and armaments of Iskander's Hetairoi, Astolfo's Griffon and Hercules' Nine Lives, respectively) are not immune to Tonbogiri's edge, since they represent facets other than the will of their user that would come into conflict against Dragonfly Cutter. However, even should its tip not be stopped, carving the matter will require more force and effort in these cases, being more akin to fighting a normal sharpened weapon wielded by its master rather than the usual blade. |

Opposite to what many believe the man who have been like, Tadakatsu was seldom irritable and his behavior was considered harmonious and peaceful by many. Carrying a nearly effeminate or overly youthful way of speaking, he is a man of small pleasures and contained temper who openly states that which makes a warrior is not a taste for violence, but recognition that man is only truly alive when in conflict. Much like the role of a king is to inspire others to dream, the role of a warrior to him is to bring dreams to fruition, combat being simply a representation of the clash between wills and wishes.
He also likes tea, pleasant dialogue, the honest laugh of young women and relaxing walks on the forest.
The Man Honda Tadakatsu was a famed daimyo who fought during the Sengoku Period of Japanese history. First serving as Ieyasu Tokugawa's page and later his first-rate warrior, then a daimyo and finally gaining a name as one of Tokugawa's Four Heavenly Kings, Tadakatsu is wildly considered to have been one of Ieyasu's greatest assets and one of the pillars with which the Tokugawa Shogunate was established. His ingenuity during battles combined with undying loyalty and courage once caused Takeda Shingen to state that only two things surpassed Tokugawa - Tadakatsu, and Tokugawa's hat. The Legend Once described by Oda Nobunaga as "a samurai amongst samurai", Honda is known for the legend that tells that despite partaking in hundreds of battle, he'd never once been even so much as scratched, let alone be defeated by another Samurai, despite his preference for wearing a gaudy antler-adorned helmet during combat and his favoritism for frontline fighting. Called by many "The Warrior who surpassed Death itself", the samurai and general would win praise and respect from many fellow daimyo not known for giving either easily.
Known as one of the "Three Spears of Japan". The End After Ieyasu Tokugawa established his Shogunate, there was an attempt to reform Tadakatsu as a politician, a similar fate to many of his fellow Samurai. Much in the same way as several of the others, this was a notorious failure, with one of the only surviving quotes of Tadakatsu being "The Shogun's bureaucrats are like wineskins – they should both have ropes around their necks."
After being granted large sums of land in reward for his continued service, Honda Tadakatsu died frustrated with a lack of battles to be fought at the ripe old age of sixty-two. He was survived by his two sons, who would later follow his service by partaking in the Osaka campaigns. Trivia Possible Alternative Classes: Saber, Rider, Archer Saber: While his spear is more well-known, Tadakatsu was known for possessing Nakatsukasa Masamune, a katana crafted by the legendary blacksmith Masamune and considered to this day a national treasure of Japan. Known to be quite skilled with it, Honda cannot use it as a weapon when summoned as a Lancer, given it'd be a disrespect to its maker not to use it in peak form. Its power as a Noble Phantasm is unknown, but the swords of Masamune in legend are known to be somehow aligned with good and harmony, only able to clash - yet incredibly efficient against - that which is undeniably evil. Rider: A lot of Honda's accomplishments in war were achieved as he rode through the landscape, engaging in horseback combat. He notoriously had a horse named Mikuniguro, which would manifest as a Noble Phantasm symbolizing his strategic achievements in this form. Archer: Whilst Honda is not recorded to ever having used a bow during battle due to his preference for melee, frontline combat, this class would crystallize his famed exploit in the Battle of Nagashino, where with Nobunaga's advice Tadakatsu commanded a rank of muskeeters to destroy enemy forces with skillful usage of ranked muskets, one of the earliest known uses of this strategy. When summoned under this Class, his Noble Phantasm manifests as a musket and can be activated to bring forth an assault similar to Oda's Three Thousand Worlds.
Grail Wish: Theoretically, the wish of Honda Tadakatsu has already been granted, as all he desired was yet another war to fight. A man that believes man only truly expresses itself in conflict, there was nothing he desired more than to once again face other warriors in battle. As a bonus, the wish that he defends in this war is nothing but the most agreeable one of all, to defend the very world and the people that live in it.
If somehow allowed a wish upon the Grail, Tadakatsu would simply wish that there would be always yet another war to take part in, a dream he could agree upon to see it through. [/PTab][/PTabbedContent={width:430px;tab-alignment=center;}] |
